Her daughter is employed by the Bath school system. Mrs. Spencer became interested in writing this book after reading several books about important events in American history. She felt that the Bath School Disaster was worthy of the attention of all school children everywhere. It is her desire, not to alarm the children, but to make them more aware of their own mortality, and to instill in them an appreciation for the modern facilities that they have available now. Some children might have a difficult time with the number of children's deaths. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. The Columbine tragedy was small compared to this one By Patrick W. Crabtree Many years ago, a small school in a rural hamlet was blown to pieces with a cache of dynamite while school was in session. The perpetrator was a local farmer, a lunatic who was affiliated with the school board and who had issues with the school's policies. As if it were not enough that he blew up the school while it was in session, he subsequently pulled up in his vehicle at the site of the disaster and when a school official and others approached him to talk, he set off another bomb, in his own vehicle! This senseless disaster ended in many tragic deaths and injuries. One doesn't hear about it today but many more students were killed here than at Columbine. See all 2 customer reviews...
