I have been helping educate pet owners about alternatives to sticking pesticides in their homes and on their pets. (Yup. That is what that monthly treatment is...) To educate myself I traced back the history of why some of the worst health risk offenders are still on the market. This book was written over 30 years ago, yet this activity still goes on in much the same way. Company makes pesticide they know is hazardous. Company skews test results. Eventually company feels the heat from selling this when too many Americans get sick. Company finds new and creative ways to ship the same pesticides to countries with laxer standards and we allow this to happen. One might think it is no longer our responsibility if another country wants to allow harmful products into their borders. Perhaps that is true - that each country should be responsible for some type of stewardship. Yet what does it say about America when they then allow the food that is heavily sprayed (usually directions either can not be read or are not present in the countries these pesticides go to) right back into this country and on our dinner tables? In effect we mitigated our own spraying, but never got rid of the issue. This was very educational, even though I wish it had been more well written. I gave it four stars for courage to have brought this issue to light and content, but not-so-much for the writing itself in some cases. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
