I really do like Iain Bank's writing style and have enjoyed other Culture ... By Al I really do like Iain Bank's writing style and have enjoyed other Culture series books I have read, but The Hydrogen Sonata was just a chore to get through. The characters were interesting and likable, but the story-line was just plain out and out boring. There were a number of dead-ends and side stories that just didn't add to the overall plot. There were also several potentially interesting characters that were developed but which contributed almost nothing. The ending was totally anticlimactic, completely predictable. It was clear from almost the first chapter where the story was going and how it was going to end, and just took you way, way too long to get there. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It's not 100 percent perfect but still a 5 star read By Amazon Customer Unlike other reviewers I think there is plenty of tech and sexy 'mind' power here, with action sequences as good as any he's written. The 'mistake not...' is a great new ship. It doesn't hang together perfectly as a novel I admit, but still it's a fantastic read and a great fix for lovers of the series like myself.
