I truly enjoy this book!! It is a Latin bogeyman story that is sure to enchant. The bad little girls (who don't do their chores) don't believe their father's stories about the bogeyman 'el cucuy" until the day he shows up!!1 In both English and Spanish it a great book to share any day. There is a moral to the story that even young children will pick up on, but that doesn't take away from the tale. As a side note, I also like that the parent is a single father. Not that it matters to the kids, but I like seeing small tweaks like that in a story. It shows that moms are not the only parents who love and cherish their children and would do anything for them, but dads as well. Great By Proud Mama I grew up in New Mexico and Joe Hayes used to actually go to my elementary school to tell us stories. This was my favorite story for him to tell. I can still remember how animated he was when telling stories-it was great. Great family favorite By LoS Fam Great book to add to your children's library, even if they haven't heard of El Cucuy. This story might scare them enough to believe in him and begin to listen a little better. I think it is a "fun" scary story, and this version makes Cucuy the monster that doesn't want to really take children away but has too if they don't behave (and parents summon him) Obviously it is a lot gentler than the traditional stories of him eating the kids, but an effective tool to use for children to listen and help out around the house. :) See all 18 customer reviews...
