I was so disappointed in this book that I returned it to amazon.com. The reviews I read prior to purchase led me to believe the book encouraged correct behavior by illustrating silly examples of the opposite behavior. I expected a fun learning experience. Alarmingly, I found that the book placed such an emphasis on absolutely unacceptable behavior that the "messages" were obliterated. For example...regarding table manners, "...parents like to think they're in charge...it will make them feel good to think they made you leave the table." Regarding siblings, "...emotional torture is always the most satisfying-- and leaves no evidence!" Regarding getting along with adults, "...don't beg or plead, unless you know from previous experience that pleading and begging works if you do it long enough." Regarding car trips, "concentrate on annoying your sister or brother instead of being bored." And so on, and so on. Perhaps I'm too serious, and others would find humor where I did not. Try as I did, however, I could not find humor in a large majority of this work; rather, I found it more than a bit unsettling. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. a laugh-out-loud book for fun-loving adults and children By A Customer I picked up this book in a doctor's office to pass the time. In a few minutes, I was laughing out loud. This is not a book to be taken seriously, and I would not share it with literal-minded children. However, for any person with a good sense of humor, it's a riot. 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Great Funny Book... By S Doyle Anyone who lives with kids or is a kid, will appreciate the real life humor of this book. People aren't perfect and you've GOT to let off stress and pressure somehow. And there's no better way than teasing your siblings or embarrassing your parents, or playing little harmless practical jokes. This book DOES stress that going too far with it is wrong, and only encourages harmless fun...unless you were highly sensitive and don't get along with other human beings, you'll love this book. Even the illustrations are funny. Like the section on "What do do when your parents do dumb things". It shows the parents dressed like ridiculous tourists and advices the child not get embarrassed, but "instead, look around the room as if you were looking for your real parents..." The humor is along those lines. Totally harmless and funny as hell...I mean heck. See all 5 customer reviews...
