As a cookbook, that's what it is. Pages contain only a few sentences, and what is there doesn't amount to much. The "guidelines" are ridiculous - do it this way, but if you don't want to, that's OK. Throw together some flour & water. He suggests the possibility that the starter might smell "foul", allowing for the possibility that it's bad. I've made sourdough many times - without yeast, as the author recommends, and I've made it every day for months at a time. I've never had this problem. I only paid $0.99 for this sorry excuse for a cookbook, and I wish I could get my money back because it's not worth it. I got started with sourdough baking with this book. The recipe is so simple and so Good! And the nutrition level of the recipe can't be beat. From start to finish this is my go to bread making recipe. I made my starter with the instructions in this book. It gives good instructions on how to keep a healthy starter. I have had great success. The recipe for bread couldn't possibly be easier! I have even been brave and tried adding things to the basic recipe all with great success. If you are looking to start baking sourdough bread, This is the book for you! Short easy to follow directions.
