MTV (MUSIC TELEVISION) FIRST AIRED ON AUGUST 1st 1981 BRINGING MUSIC VIDEOS TO T.V. CHANGING THE WAY WE LOOKED AT MUSIC FOR GOOD! PEOPLE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD NEVER LOCKED THEIR DOORS AT NIGHT. KIDS WOULD GET UP IN THE MORNING, GET ON THEIR BIKES AND WOULD STAY GONE ALL DAY, ONLY RETURNING HOME IN THE EVENING TO EAT DINNER! IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME THEN! A GREAT TIME TO BE A KID! WE NEVER REALIZED JUST HOW GOOD WE HAD IT UNTIL WE TOOK TIME TO LOOK BACK ON OUR CHILDHOOD AND SEE ALL THE FUN STUFF WE GOT TO DO. By Patrick Kearns One might think that these guys made up half the stories in the book thinking that the stories seem just too wild and crazy. Well...... as one of their older brothers I can say that for a fact they are not made up, they actually did all those things. Immoral, unjust, unspeakable, insane, nutty, delusional, impulsive, childish, self-centered might be a few words that come to mind, but in reality, their hearts were innocent and they made the best out of life laughing all the way. Mike and Dan are still to this day the most hilarious and authentic guys, and this book will show you where it all began. You will laugh, shake your head back and forth in disbelief and maybe a little disgust, but you will be completely entertained as you enter into their world. Great job Mike and Dan. You guys ROCK! Great Book! By Maryalice Mahoney A fun and interesting book about a family of boys--It just holds your interest--How the boys got away with all the escapades is a wonder!!--They grew up to be wonderful family men and have loving families--Be sure to read this great book!---And by the way--Mike is a Vet--from Dessert Storm--Please read!!! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Honest, genuine, and hilarious! By ramon corona I am giving it five stars because I grew up hearing about this crew and their antics and enjoyed reading these stories first hand. My older brother went to school with Danny, the "BF MAN". Although I was three years younger than most of these guys I was allowed to hang out with this crew a couple times because of my older brother, Sub. I remember how grateful I was for having a brother like mine when I witnessed "Jack" put "Joe" in the figure four wrestling move in the middle of the arcade Flipper Flapper and Joe screaming at the top of his lungs for Jack to stop. I also remember how they would chant "wild dog, wild dog, wild dog" to hype up before either of them would break off to perform a challenge, a daring stunt, or funny prank. Definitely a fun group to watch. "Growing Up White Trash" is a fast read, funny, and as it's explained in the book, the grammar and punctuation isn't near perfect, but if you can get past all that, you will be blessed by these genuine, fun-loving, good spirited, lovable group of guys trying to find their way in this world. Even if you don't know the Kerns brothers, or where Olivehurst is, this book will have you belly laughing as you read these stories of childhood antics and desperate adolescent enterprise. The book truly captures the essence of knowing the Kearns, which is this, they always leave you walking away with a smile on your face and better for knowing them. See all 11 customer reviews...
