This is new, and interesting, and well worth your time. By Michaelbrent I have become a fan of Al Carlisle's work. He is careful with his data, careful with his conclusions. Even when going on a limb - as here, when he posits a "fictional" (though well-researched and well-grounded) interview with the book's subject - his attention to detail and clarity of thought allow the readers to follow even the twisted recesses of a madman's mind. Ted Bundy has been
discussed over and over, and will continue to be analyzed and his motives dissected for a long time. One of the dangers there is either elevating such an oft-discussed subject to the level of a mythological creature. The other is to discuss him in banal terms that add nothing to the current scholarship. Carlisle's work does neither. Though I preferred his book Broken Samurai: A Combat Marine's Journey from Hero to Hitman, this is one more excellent entry in his increasing stable of books that treat us to previously unseen insights into madness... all from the comfort of a favorite reading chair. Perhaps the three stars are only because I wanted more ... By Leadie J. Flowers Perhaps the three stars are only because I wanted more reality than the possibility here. While Dr. Carlisle did actually interact and interview Ted Bundy, as well as others who knew him, I grasped that the words put in Ted's mouth were educated guesses from the Doctor's wealth of information. (He does state that he used information from many other specialists and associates of Mr. Bundy.) I didn't feel that I was really getting the perspective of Bundy since the words weren't actually his. That said, the educated speculation of what went on in his mind may help to identify future serial killers at earlier stages. Perhaps to even steer them in another direction but it's a very long shot since that would mean professionals (psychiatric) being involved in a person's life from an early stage.
