Inaccurate, Poorly Written By G J As a spinal cord injury physician, I purchased this item to review for my upcoming Spinal Cord Injury boards. Based on the title, you would think this book would be appropriate to serve as a nice review for the boards. However, the majority of the questions in this book are NOT even closely related to spinal cord injury. There are random questions about completely unrelated topics. The book seems to be randomly created off of medical web searches. The questions that actually are related to SCI are riddled with inaccuracies. I would NOT recommend this book to anyone. Thomas Given that I have been a board examiner for the American Board of Neurology & Psychiatry, have worked with Spinal Cord Injury Board Review questions for my previous exam in 2005, passed the exam then, and recently studied for my recertification this year, and passed again, I may be in a good position to comment. I thought this was an incompetent hack job and was amazed that it had passed Amazon muster and is being offered for sale. Some 30% of the questions were generic and irrelevant to this board exam (e.g. #428 about informed consent, #427 about competent persons refusing care #369 about res ipsa loquitur), 20% were poorly worded, 10% were repeats (#355 + 410 about muscle
relaxants, others about level of injury or MRC strength tests), 10% were simplistic (#410 benzodiazepines as muscle relaxants), 10% were about research methodology again irrelevant to the board exam (e.g. #376 about NNT = number needed to treat). The references for further information are too general to be useful. It is hard to imagine that the authors have any knowledge about this board exam (or any other). It is worrisome that after my anonymous colleague GJ wrote a very similar review on 11/09/14 this product is still being offered. I encourage Amazon to refund the purchase price to buyers and to send thank-you notes to GJ and me for helping Amazon through our reviews keep its image as a good corporate citizen.
