Over 80 million people have seen 'Phantom' worldwide, but it is this original London cast which made the only available recording of the show, so it is this cast that is known best to the worldwide audience. Few of these photos have even been seen by others, although Hal Prince, the original director of the show, said these were the best photographs of the show he had ever seen. Big Treasure of Phantom of the Opera and the OLC By Eva Stieger I didn't know what to expect, but I am glad to have purchased this great catalogue. This book, filled with unseen b&w photos, is outstanding and I love it. The book is a treasure for all lovers of PotO, but especially for admirers of Steve Barton, who is a big loss to the world of musical theatre. So I highly recommend this book of Mr. Marcus Tylor to anyone searching for holding rare shots from the early Phantom's backstage. I can not wait for the next book from this author and photographer, but than with colored photos, maybe. Marcus Tylor, you did a perfect job. Reed I haven't actually purchsed this book, and I have yet to decide if I actually will just to add it to my collection of Phantom related books. When I first heard about this book, I was really excited since there is only one other book that I know of that has pictures from the Broadway musical. So, a book that had some interesting pictures from the musical particularly backstage ones, was something that I wanted! I currently have a copy waiting at a local bookstore and I flipped through
it. Boy was I disappointed. I think the only nice thing about it is the color because I think that's where all the money went to print this book. Now, there are a wide range of photos, from close ups of actors in costumes (that can be very freaky) to photos of the sets. However, all the pictures are in black and white and there are a few captions and a couple of pages of writing but that's about it. It's mostly a book of pictures. Now, this in itself wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the QUALITY of the photos. The paper is like normal book paper, kind of rough. Not glossy like most photo paper is. The photos also look like really bad photocopies that someone made at the library for a report or something. Not good quality photos at all. If the book was maybe half the price its asking for, then I'd buy it for my collection. As it is, it is not worth nearly $50. I'd suggest either finding it used, borrow someone's copy or at least get a chance to look through the book and decide if its worth shelling out the money. See all 4 customer reviews...
