Very interesting view By Linda I have had the privileged of spending a few days with Benjamin Patton, and he is one of the nicest people I have met. What I love about this book is the different perspective on the Patton history. Of course, history buffs have seen the movies, watched history channel, and even studied General Patton in depth. But, this book gives you a view of being the grandson of one General Patton, and the son of the next General Patton. Through the letters from the senior Gen Patton to the son MG Patton, you can see the love one man, who has seen way too much of death and war, has for his son. Plus, reading this book gives you the human side of being a famous war hero, and living in those shadows. In the military, we have a saying, "You either get out while you are still a hero, or you stay in so long you become the villain." I have always loved "the Patton" history because it tells of a real man, who had the whole damn world on his shoulders. He saw so much death and destruction, and he knew he had to fight hard, or the whole world would be over taken by a dictator. We were losing the war, and he was called in to work with PM Churchhill to basically save the world. So many men died, and he saw it all. He fought, and fought hard, then he messed up, and messed up bad. He stumbled, and he got up again. Getting up again is the show of a real man. Throughout it all, he took the time he had on this earth to pass those lessons on to the one person he knew would be facing the same powerful demons he would face, and he sowed those lessons well.
