An often overlooked personality, "Pancho" Barnes helped open doors for today's women. From privilege to poverty, Pancho experienced it all. A truly unique character and her well written story. 16 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Contents: 10 --- Literary quality: 0 By A Customer I believe the contents in "Pancho" were very well researched, and the book includes much information I didn't know about one of my heroines. However, I firmly believe that the book could have used a good editor because of mistakes such as "maid of honor" appearing as "made of
honor". This is one of about a dozen. Also, somewhere along the line, the author loses interest or something because the writing becomes sketchy, or perhaps the author is unable to progress smoothly from one very blatant item of research to another. In other words, she dumps research on us without having it flow--it simply becomes one statement after another with no connecting threads. The contents notwithstanding, the book was somewhat difficult to read through due to stopping along the way because of a misused word or sentences such as, "Pancho was livid with rage." Duh-h-h. Perhaps people are used to reading illiterate books these days, but I'm not. Unfortunately. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. ****Fun Look Back*** By Sam Moss This woman was a hoot in her day and lived for the moment and when I read Chuck Yeagers' autobiography he mentioned her place and some good times so it perked my interest so I got this to follow up on this lively gal. She was also mentioned in other test pilots that matriculated through Muroc in the old days after the war and that only added more gas to the fire so to speak and it was interesting to go back in time and check out those 'good ole days'. There is another bio in 'The Happy Bottom Riding Club' that is more about the goings on in the 40's & 50's whereas this treatment really covers Panchos' life from beginning to end. What a gal.
