About the Author I’m an author with an irrational fear of flying monkeys, a quick wit, and a vocabulary that would make a sailor blush. Oh, and I love writing... I lived more than half of my life in Texas and I have a great affinity for Austin, a theme you’ll notice in the Slow Burn series. Austin is a wonderfully diverse city full of interesting people and great food. In 2012, I moved to Colorado on a whim, where I enjoy spending my time in the mountains, cycling, hiking, or walking my dogs. And if you continue to buy my books, I’ll be able to afford a move to Boulder soon—so thank you for supporting indie authors!

Momentarily safe, the survivors turn to the matter of where to bury the dead. Zed, being now the only one available who would not attract the attentions of the infected, accompanies Freitag on this morbid mission. In short order, Zed is once more embittered and hardened against trust, when he finds himself stranded. After a series of developments that prove the Whites to be more formidable foes than he ever dreamed, he finds his way back to Sarah’s house to find the compound overrun with infected and his friends mysteriously vanished without a trace, leaving Zed to rely once more solely on his wits to survive… ● ● ● ● ● ●

Also, although I enjoy a zombie movie now and then, I am not a hardcore zombie fan, but I couldn’t put these books down. Here’s why: First of all, it is a testament to the author’s skill that he is able to write these books in the first person point of view. As I read the first few paragraphs I considered stopping right there because

first person is severely limiting and is not done well nearly as often as it is attempted. But by the time I read a few more paragraphs, I was hooked. I read the nine books essentially non-stop. Second, the main character is relatable, not so much because of his personal history pre-zombie times but because of how he thinks of himself, generally speaking. He’s a guy with a few emotional scars and a few strengths, and he’s just trying to find a place in the world. Now that the world has been zombie-fied, things get a bit more dramatic than before. Third, the whole “slow burn” concept is a great twist on the whole zombie setting, one that I can’t recall being used in any other zombie story, ever. Fourth, the author’s inventiveness surfaces over and over again, in clever and surprising ways. I don’t think there was a cliché or even a slightly tired scene in any of the 9 books. I won’t give anything away here, but you’ll see what I mean when he figures out how to refuel a piece of farm equipment. Fifth, the author knows a few things about animal behavior, which he applies to the zombies. Clue: various groups of zombies exhibit radically different behaviors. Sixth, the pacing is great. Something is either happening or about to happen, and nowhere in the books does the author bore you with useless exposition. Seventh, the dialogue is done well. Different characters sound like different people, and even in quiet scenes they talk like people exhausted and stressed in a world gone wacky, not like characters in a soap opera or half-baked sitcom. Oh, and there are some rather funny lines throughout the books. Lastly, there are human interactions and emotions and growth that just happen to take place in the middle of some very wild zombie craziness. Long after you read these books, you WILL remember the main characters. So, all in all, the Slow Burn series is VERY nicely done. I’ve told a bunch of people about these books, and only when I do that do I give a book 5 stars. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic Series Set In and Around Austin, Texas. Fast Paced Page Turner By Jason C. I have read the Slow Burn series 1-9 and I must say if there were 30 books in the series i would read them all. Zed and Murphy are well developed characters that I formed a connection with throughout the series. I did not want to put these books down and I hope we will see more from this series in the future.(hint, hint Bobby) I have read most if not all of Bobby Adair's work and I love his style. To me all of his writings have a great flow and roughness that makes it seem as if you are really there. I also love the fact that the Slow Burn series in set in Austin, Texas and the surrounding areas. His accurate geographical descriptions make these even better reads for a fellow Texan. I highly, highly recommend this series to anyone I meet that is interested in AP Fiction or a great read in general. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not like the first three By A. Boothe

I'm a big fan of this series...until this book. Don't know if it was a book written between other books or perhaps a lull in the thought process but this book was slow! There are books that you hit a place and the explanation is obviously fill..hey author you need another 3 pages so fill fill fill. I end up "speed reading" those parts. There were quite a few of the speed reading opportunities with Dead Fire. The first three books not a problem, they were great and action filled. How many paragraphs does it take to explain a thought process for making something blow up? You'll see in this book. I did purchase the next one, Torrent. I'm hoping it's more like the first three than the last one. Any more like Dead Fire and I might just wander off like a White with the attention span of a bug. See all 746 customer reviews...
