Excellent resource of post WWII Intelligence community By Amazon Customer The book is an attempt to reveal a classified covert operation which took place just after WWII. I borrowed this book under my Prime account and then purchased the paper version after I was done. Why? In the process of telling the story, the author follows the emergence of the new Intelligence community with names of organizations, people and dates. And it is extensively referenced. So I wanted my own copy just to act as a reference for future research. Note, this is not a fast paced adventure story. It is a thorough look into the little details which bring a hidden agenda into the light.
Neither is this a history of the Intelligence community. But it is an excellent overview of that history and it points to plenty of other works which do provide that resource. It makes for an excellent entry into the subject. 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A new way to view the birth of the Cold War By John B. Ringer This book is unique. Carrion has done an impressive amount of work, I assume over quite a few years, to piece together the work of a small group of leaders he calls "The Rosetta Group". Using behind the scenes smoke and mirrors, they pulled off some incredible deceptions in the newly developed "Cold War" between the U.S. and Russia. Apparently, the main goal was to crack the Russian codes and thereby read their private talk. The details are copious, and the development rather labored, but I have faith in both the research and the facts. I kept waiting for some kind of "wrapping up", but that was not to be, at least to my liking. Highly recommended for those interested in Cold War history, spy operations, and conspiracy buffs. Good book with an abrupt end By Too many toys I won't repeat other reviews describing the plot, etc. I enjoyed this book as I was unfamiliar with the particular subject. Having read about "Ghost Rockets" in various UFO-related forums, RD provided an interesting alternative explanation to the phenomenon. I have already recommended this book to several friends as I think it is an interesting book and an interesting, reasonably well supported premise. I have two criticisms of the book: 1) While the conversational, tongue-in-cheek style was OK, it was not always clear where facts left off and hypothesis began, and 2) The ending was very abrupt. I was rather shocked when I turned the page and was presented with a list of references. See all 4 customer reviews...
