Insite in to the real Judas By MickeyT Food for thought. Shows how Judas did what he was predisposed to do in his betrayal of Jesus. In reading a different banished book of the bible, I found out that Judas and Christ knew each other as small children and that Jesus exercised Satan from Judas which could be another very valuable clue in to these two beings relationship.
4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Sarcastic is putting it mildly By H.McBurr After reading Mr. Mattison's Gospel of Judas, which he calls sarcastic,I completely agree with him. This ancient text is certainly sarcastic of apostolic Christianity, if not downright hostile. All scholars agree that this book not only wasn't written by Judas, or even by anyone who knew Judas, and as much of the text is missing, even whole pages--we are left wondering just what kind of a man wrote this... a gospel that claims Judas was a demon (perhaps that is true) albeit a demon whom Jesus was the best of buddies with and told him secrets he didn't feel the other disciples were bright enough to understand. And the secrets (not that they are much of a secret in that the original writer planned on people reading about his theory...or perhaps his vision)...are pretty eccentric secrets. For instance, that there is another greatest, most fantastic realm that no "current?"angel has ever seen, and that the greatest angels were begotten there, and those angels created even more sinister angels, who created more angels, who ruled Hades...and then eventually even created Adam and Eve. Ulp. Some also say that this gospel makes Judas a hero, after all, in order for Christianity to begin, Christ had to die and Judas ratted him out but, but Judas was actually asked to by Jesus, according to this book. In essence, Judas pushed the button, so to speak, of betraying Jesus so that he could go to his anguished death and save us all in the process. But, really? I've often wondered how this was such a betrayal, as Jesus was quite famous by then, and nearly everyone knew who he was, unless of course, he traveled in incognito, which he probably could have at times. I admit to being very skeptical of this book, and nervous about reading it. Mr.Mattison seems to be a master scholar and his views on the text are interesting and at times profound. It's clearly interesting to me to read about how some of the ancient people thought, and realize some were just as eccentric and perhaps even as sarcastic and odd as people are today. Thank you, Mark, for bringing this book to our attention. It was a fascinating read and your commentary is complex and intriguing. 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. An Interesting Gospel By Dave Hewitt I had perused the Gospel of Judas by the National Geographic Society when it first came out, but did not end up reading it. It seemed rather long and expensive to invest the time and money. I did think Mattison's book was worth both, since it was inexpensive and shorter. I liked how Mattison gave the historical background of the church at the time of the writing as well as the history of the document itself. He explains complex ideas in a way that non-Biblical scholars can understand. In the places where experts disagree, he discusses the positions of both sides and argues his points exceedingly well. When I first saw the Gospel of Judas I wondered why Jesus laughed so much. Thanks to Mattison's book I now know why. See all 12 customer reviews...
