Most helpful customer reviews 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. not as good By Furio Unfortunately this second part of the Brood Chronicles seems to suffer from the famous "second instalment in a fantasy series syndrome".
Ideas are there, they are good, humour is just as sharp if not more so (this is the only fantasy I know where so many words are spent on gases expelled from the bowels) but rhythm is slack. In the first part the story nearly drags, partly because the author is summarizing what she should not have been summarizing, partly because Connor's behaviour and her conflicts with Kenton appear contrived. There are too many sentences where things are told and not shown and characters appear bidimentional. In the second half thing get better: action picks up a bit and even if not everything is as it should be the story flows forward more easily. The final battle is not exactly believable (all those nice little chats between one killing and the other) but is a nice conclusion for this volume. 1 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
