Still wearing her wedding dress. A motorcycle approaches and stops a tall handsome man with startling green eyes dismounts and asks her if she needs help. Carlos Diablo Ortega, thought he was seeing things when he spotted a woman in a bridal gown at the side of the road thumbing a lift. After a brief discussion mostly about whether Martha would be safe with him. Eventually assured she climbs on his bike. Due to the weather they take refuge in a hotel for the night. I really loved this book, I know it's not realistic to meet a guy by thumbing a lift wearing your wedding dress, but the immediate attraction between them was red hot. It was written so well I wanted to believe it. Martha had only told Carlos her name was Miss Jones, he had given his name as Carlos Diablo. A name which Martha thought suited him so well. They give in to the heat and chemistry between them. But when Carlos discovers that Martha is a virgin he is furious he has a rule he never sleeps with virgins. He storms out of the hotel room to get some air but when he returns Miss Jones has gone. Carlos thinks he will never see her again. Little does he know that he will. A very satisfying read, filled with emotion and passion. Loved the characters. Martha was a really sweet girl open and honest. Carlos had recently made a discovery affecting his position in his family. But he is a good man at heart. Highly recommend. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Interesting Read By LAS Reviewer Any woman would be tempted by a Diablo on a motorcycle ready to take her away from her sad past and into an exciting new future. Miss Jones is no exception; she was ready to go with anyone willing to get her away from the drama that was her life so far. Luckily for her, Diablo is was the first passerby willing to take a chance on the runaway bride. Carlos Ortega (Diablo) was the Latin flair that Miss Marta Jones needed. Diablo was a character I was immediately drawn to. While his good looks and bad boy attitude would entice any woman, it was really the mystery behind his eyes that intrigued me. I could tell from the very beginning there was more than what meets the eyes when it came to the mysterious man running away from his past life. I knew he wasn't the typical "bad guy" who would frighten old women in a dark alley. No, he was a man who's circumstances had changed and made him jaded. It made me want to learn more about him.
Miss Jones was not your typical runaway bride. She didn't get cold feet because things were moving too fast. No, she ran with cause, and refused to look back at not only her ex-fiancé but the life that had lead her to the man she never wanted to see again. I knew her ex's actions had to have been bad for her to be willing to run to Diablo. Her recent and lengthier background really molded her to a strong independent woman. Even when faced with situations that would break many women she sticks her chin up and fought. This is an admirable quality that every heroine should have. The beginning of the story was a bit slow for me. The characters seem to go back and forth for a while on whether to trust one another enough for Martha to leave the site of her wedding. Once she finally decides to take the plunge the plot shot forward. The story development became exciting and continuously moved along at a brisk and steady pace. All the twists and turns in the story really made the reading go smoothly and I zipped right through the middle and onward to the end of the book. Don't judge this little gem on how the tale starts because the author definitely came through for me with the rest of the story. Anyone who is a romantic at heart or really enjoys a good romance story would enjoy The Devil and Miss Jones. That is the opening scene of the brilliant read from Kate Walker. And you know when a book has such a awesome opening scene your definitely in for a fantastic book all the way. And what a book this was indeed. The author took me on a journey of love,self discovery,passion and romance. I loved how the author created such a almost magical world for the characters to unfold in for me the reader. We see the sexy and somewhat mysterious Carlos Diablo (I know what your thinking and yes Diablo means devil but trust me on this you will be more than pleasantly surprised when you learn this man's true nature,no devil at all )learn a valuable lesson in life and at the same time he leans to escape his demons that he has been running from. I simply loved how the author unveiled his develish clock ! Then there is Martha the run-a-way bride ,she was such a fabulous character ! Fiesty in her own right but at the same time scared half to death of being a single mother. I loved how the author showed me that Martha was not who she really seemed ,sounds intriguing ,you bet ,very nice twist Mrs. Walker ! I have always loved Kate Walker books and I have never been disappointed by her work and this time I was even more amazed than before for she completely took my breath away with this fabulous book ! Well done ! 5/5
