Excellent Book of Biblical reflections By Mike Byrne Since Father Mills has already written several excellent books on biblical spirituality, you come to his latest book with great expectations. “Come Follow Me” does not let you down. It is a wonderful book of short meditations that help bring Sacred Scripture alive. In chapter three Father Mills tells us that “Jesus taught people using simple terms and concepts; simple not simplistic. Unfortunately we often make simple things complicated.” Father practices what he preaches. While in many ways this book is written in a simple manner, it certainly is not simplistic. Each of the twenty-five chapters begins with a Biblical passage. Father Mills then follows the passage with his reflections on those verses. While Father Mills has excellent academic credentials he is also a Pastor. That means that he brings a wonderful mix of knowledge combined with a great deal of experience to his commentary. I think you will find each of his chapters interesting, useful and well worth reading. However, if you are like me one or two of the chapters
will especially hit you between the eyes. For me it was Chapter twenty-four. He hits you with a paradox that could only be described as Chestertonian. It started me on a new way of thinking about my current responsibility for caring for my 101 year old Dad.
