Its a Good Book By Craig After finishing this book I can say that if you are looking for a book that gives you a clear and concise introduction into JavaFX, then this book is for you. I also have "Pro JavaFX 8", and "JavaFX 8: Introduction by Example", and both of them are a lot more complicated and harder to understand then this book. I will say that this book misses a few things that are pretty important in JavaFX (like FXML) however everything that the book does cover is easy to understand. I believe that the biggest strength that this book has, is that it explains the JavaFX api to you instead of assuming that you have read the api and figured it out yourself. For example, when the author shows you something new like JavaFX properties, he shows the most common methods for properties and gives explanations for what they do.
Overall this is a really good book that I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in learning more about JavaFX (Its a lot easier to understand then the other books). 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Missing coverage of fxml and SceneBuilder By Scott S. Great coverage of JavaFX, but does not include coverage of fxml and SceneBuilder. With fxml you build your display outside of the java code (just like in web development you do not have html in your java code, but in a jsp). SceneBuilder is free from Oracle and is a great way to build the user interface. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Weak, shallow, saturated with details, lacking deep overview. By Christopher V. Kimball Too much detail on simple stuff, no discussion of the benefits of the new structure. Why Nodes, Regions, etc. Yes, JavaFX can do what Java Swing can do. But what's the advantage, other that it's new? I'm sure there's a good explanation, but it's not in this book. Returned mine. See all 15 customer reviews...
