Most helpful customer reviews 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Take Me On takes on many topics beautifully. By Cheshire Cat West Young is Rachel's brother from Crash Into You. While Take Me On can be read as a standalone, there are several references to what happens in Crash Into You, plus this takes place during the ending time period of CIY, so it may be helpful to read CIY first. Plus I loved CIY, so I recommend it anyway. Our MCs, West and Haley, are not perfect characters, nor perfect people. They have made mistakes, hurt others, suffered loss, and have yet to find the tools to dig them out of the holes and traps they are in. Some of their struggles are from their own choices, some from other's choices, and some are just what we call "life." What goes down in this book, and the past situations these two have endured, are heartbreaking. But this story brings these two people who shouldn't even know each other together, and somehow they find reasons to change, grow, and renew their focus, purpose, and hope in life. I loved reading about both West and Haley. I genuinely liked them both, and rooted for them to make the right choices. Not only did I like them individually, but I loved the tender, determined, and endearing traits they brought out of each other. Take Me On tackles numerous topics, numerous social and personal issues, and though I don't want to say what they are specifically because I don't want to give away spoilers, I will say that McGarry is able to seamlessly blend so many situations and struggles together, that anyone reading this book should be able to relate to at least one issue, if not more. All of McGarry's books have handled difficult topics, but I think Take Me One has touched on the most topics, and I really appreciate the respect and sensitivity she shows the characters and their situations through her writing. Which then makes the reader feel respected, which is always a good thing. The plot is also exciting, with just the right blend of emotion and action. I didn't want to put the book down, and wanted to fight alongside West and Haley until the end. I realize that McGarry will write books outside of this series, but honestly, I would be perfectly content if she only wrote stories in this series. I will read them all. Every book is not only the story

of its main characters, but we are exposed to incredible secondary characters, and I want to know all of their stories. Katie McGarry has such an amazing knack for bridging gaps between opposing ends of the spectrum and bringing unlikely characters together, to understand each other, to empathize and sympathize, to forgive, to care, to hope, to dream, to live. Take Me On once again hits the mark, and I loved it. I'm looking forward to whatever and whomever comes next. 8 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A bit too melodramatic. By BookGeek It took me a very long time to get into TAKE ME ON. I flip-flopped about whether or not I would quit, but ultimately decided to keep with it. In the end, I was glad that I made it to the end. Here’s my problem with this installment and also CRASH INTO YOU (book 3)…they’re unrealistic. It’s unrealistic, because it’s too much. Echo and Noah from PUSHING THE LIMITS were so beautiful, because they were real. They were surrounded by drama, but it wasn’t too much. I believed that Echo had a traumatic incident that she blocked out and I believed that Noah was a kid in the foster system who just wanted to have his family back. It wasn’t too much. It was just enough drama, romance and sadness to make one of the best contemporary YA novels, I have read. TAKE ME ON straddles the line of melodrama too often. That’s the problem. I found the Young family to be ridiculously unrealistic. There is nothing about their world, their family life and the entire situation surrounding them in book 3 and 4, to be relatable. I could not relate. I could not care. In this installment, you have the angst of falling in love, then there’s West getting kicked out of his house, having to start a new school, looking for a job, etc and then he finds himself in the middle of Haley’s family feud. This books had fist fights, robberies, people sleeping in their cars, rumor mills, drug addicts, psychopath exes, family secrets, abusive parents, depression, etc etc etc. It was just too much.??As soon as I had a handle on one storyline, something major was thrown in. I wish that Katie McGarry had stuck with two plot points and left the rest of it behind. That being said, I loved the storyline of Haley teaching West to fight. It’s very rare where a woman is teaching a guy the art of defending himself. I liked that she could take care of herself, but still needed someone to have her back. I also liked the idea of Matt, the ex-boyfriend in denial about his family. I wish that it would have been focused on that story, because it felt real. It’s not a horrible book. Just…too much. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. 4 Stars By Book Flame So far I have been loving the Pushing The Limits Series and this one was no different although out of the four if I had to choose this would be my least favorite but I still really enjoyed the heck out of this book. I think I was a little biased towards West since I pretty much hated him from the last book so to look at him in any other form then the guy who screwed things up in the last book took a little time to get past...about half way through the book until he grew on me actually. Right off the bat I really liked Haley, she is a champion kick boxer which is bad ass but like all of McGarry's characters she is broken her and her family have suffered great loss which leads them

to depend on her verbally abusive uncle who is a complete jerk to where your waiting for the moment when someone sets him straight and then on top of that Haley has stopped fighting after getting into it with her abusive ex who happens to also be a MMA fighter and has it out for her brother and cousin. I liked that she had many layers to her character she was strong but yet had many weaknesses as well which made her seem very real. Then there is West, i'm still not fully in love with his character because of the last book but even then he just seemed typical rich party boy with parental issues. He is one of those characters that just does things without thinking which is what landed him in a fight against Haley's ex. It was interesting to see how the Rachel situation from the last book really affected him and that made me soften up on him a little. He had tremendous amount of guilt to the point where he couldn't even face his sister and it was a battle within himself for him to finally go see her knowing he was the cause of it all. Overall I didn't find myself as emotionally invested with the characters in this book as I have with the ones in the past three books but nonetheless it was still a page turner and a great addition to the series. Now if only we can get a book for Abby I have a feeling her story is going to be freakin' incredible. See all 124 customer reviews...
