The author dispels some of the myths of the generals childhood and paints a picture of a man who was greater than life. Published in 1922 the book is somewhat dated in language but I believe that the story is told better than it would be by modern revisionist historians.

Excellent Read By TomPF This bio of Washington focuses on the character of the man instead of just a litany of facts and dates compiled about his life. The author shows that, contrary to popular lore, Washington was actually a quick thinking, hospitable man of character. Other authors interpret Washington's mild manners as shyness or in today's lingo, "being uptight". This book looks at his life in a different light and was quite refreshing.
