Schematic Drawings Missing By Redshift A well written book, but it falls short of 5 stars because it does not include the schematic drawings which would be a tremendous aid in interpreting the written material. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. misrepresented By smike this book appears to be a printed version of the gutenberg project's free download. it is lacking any of the photos or line drawings present in the smithsonian press version. while it is possible that i missed this detail in the posting on amazon, however it should have been stressed more than it was, if at all. in short, its crap. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Another one that loses point for a lousy reprint. By Rick Cook A lot has been written about the original Wright flyers, but relatively little about the engines that powered. Like the planes, themselves, the engines were designed by the Wright brothers because they couldn't find engines light enough and powerful enough for their designs. The resulting engines were marvels of mechanical ingenuity combined with some really dumb design decisions. Still they worked, and like the airplanes themselves, advanced the state of t he art.
I wish I could rate this book more highly, but missing illustrations and lousy (no?) proofreading pull it way down. See all 15 customer reviews...
