The value of the book is in the "visually" that is in-bedded in the title. This is the third book in the "Visually" series I have purchased. I find it not nearly as useful as the one for Photoshop or Android. What you will get with this book is a lot of high quality screenshots of only the most basic uses of the operating system, and where their buttons to click are located. Likewise for the many apps that come with Windows 10. The book is task oriented. Want to shut down your PC? Go to the index and look for "shutting down Windows". You'll be directed to page 7 where you'll find the numbered steps for shutting down Windows. Each numbed step has a corresponding number on a screenshot indicating the button to push. Being dyslexic, I like this type of quick reference a whole lot, but the scope of the operating system and the generous bundle of apps Windows 10 includes is too great to be thoroughly covered by screenshots. I will be using this book, but I find myself wanting a detailed manual, possibly Windows 10 Inside Out. 90 of 96 people found the following review helpful. TEACH YOURSELF VISUALLY WINDOWS 10 is a thorough, complete guide for getting started with using Windows 10 on a PC (start with Ch. 1, "Explore the PC Screen") or on a touchscreen PC or tablet (start with Ch. 1, "Explore the Tablet Screen"). Because this guide uses exact screenshots to explain even the simplest procedure (e.g., "Put Windows to Sleep"), it is probably most useful for relatively new and inexperienced computer users. However, I needed a basic, moderately-priced (about $20) manual for Windows 10, because I wanted to upgrade a Windows 8.1 laptop to Windows 10 without spending hours learning where everything was in the new operating system. I've never gotten comfortable with Windows 8.1, so upgrading without having a manual available was a near-certain recipe for disaster. In this guide, exact screenshots explain every icon, button, tile, screen area, and procedure. The screenshots show exactly what a user should be seeing on the display while following detailed, written, step-by-step instructions for each procedure (e.g., "Connect to Your Wireless Network", "Navigate Web Pages", "Share a Document or Folder"). The screenshots are overlaid with lettered
and numbered circles that help the user shift back and forth between the written steps and the appropriate navigational buttons and menus shown in the screenshots. Very good helpful source for the basic stuff with Windows 10. By Michael J. Leibowitz A friend of mine recently purchased a new computer with Windows 10 on it. I bought this book because I wanted to be able to help him with the use of his new machine. He is not into the "tech stuff" very much. I found the book very helpful with much of the things that you will find to be different from Windows 7 or 8.1. The book is very basic and walks you through the various sections with excellent visuals and simple step by step instruction. Once you get past the basic stuff, the books just does not keep up and I suspect another more in depth source will be needed. I anticipate needing to eventually upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on my computer so I am glad I bought this book for starters. After the Windows 10 operating system gets all (or most) of the little bugs out, I'll need a more inclusive source of information. But for now, my friend thinks I'm very helpful.
