Chandrasekaran I got this book after hesitating to do so because some reviews said it is only for advanced students. Actually this can be really useful even to beginners. It is very systematic and treats every aspect of the language in detail and in a very clear and definite manner. I was really helped a lot when I read the gender section right at the beginning. It greatly helped me in removing a big hurdle with German. Every section and even para is a gem. The main thing is that it gives you the pattern and not simply an isolated piece of fact about German. For example, it says in general verbal nouns ending -t are feminine in gender and otherwise they are masculine. This has made a big difference. Even my native German tutors have not provided such a insight. Buy this as soon you know this. Everytime I read a page of this book I come out significantly informed and confident and eager to learn more. I wish they had eBook of this to read on the go instead of having to carry the rather heavy book. But it is a pleasure to have it around oneself. 23 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Learn Something New in German EVERYDAY! By Kobi Smith I read it between 45 minutes and 1 hour everyday, and I learn something from this book that I didn't know previously almost everyday! I came close to giving it 5 stars, but the book is too extensive and thorough if you can believe that. In other words, it is impossible to learn the hundreds of grammatical rules and colloquialisms and modern-day usages that are contained in this book, even if you ARE a native speaker! My only quarrel with the book is that it sometimes gives examples by using German sentences but then does not translate the sentence into English, which defeats the purpose of providing the example as one cannot learn from the example if he doesn't know the meaning of the sentence. 16 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Excellent grammar for students of German By Amanda G I have had a few German classes, and I think that this book is an excellent alternative to keeping old textbooks, which can often be difficult to find grammar information in, quickly, on my desk. The references are easy to use and look up, and the explanations are clear.
