A Battlemage's motto is duty. How far will one go to fulfill that duty? What do you do when you are told your parents were brutally murdered by the ruler of your realm? How do you respond when you are told that you are the rightful ruler of that same realm. Is it your duty to avenge your parents and bring their murderers to justice? Or to act save your realm that is about to erupt into civil war. How should a newly robed battlemage respond if that duty suddenly names him king? When half a realm's Highlords and armies are against you and the other half thinks you are dead, how do you unite them and prove the truth to all? What if the Quest that could save the kingdoms has some of the gods of Tyrus also wanting to stop you to thwart an ancient prophecy from being fulfilled which foretells the ancient Elwyn masters returning and enslaving the world? Reading through the excerpt I was slack-jawed within minutes at the sheer number of grammatical and punctuation errors contained in such a small amount of text! It is enormously depressing that something so badly written could have made it to the realms of the published novel without the publishers at the very least running it past an editor! The sentence structure is clumsy and awkward, reminiscent of a small child's first story than a supposedly adult fantasy author. This may be the terrific story that other reviewers have tagged it. Sadly I'll never find out because any enthusiasm for it was killed off by the author's inability to recognise the need for something so simple as the possessive apostrophe, of which there was no sign whatsoever. The appalling drop in editorial standards in published novels over the past decade has reached a new low in this novel, which reads more like a school essay - and one which should have been given low marks at that. The fact that some readers don't even notice how badly put together it is and how it massacres the English language and its rules, is even more depressing still. 11 of 14 people found the following review helpful. It needed an editor By Janrae Frank This book seriously needed an editor and a re-write. I've spent thirty years in the publishing industry working as both a writer and an editor under my pen name of Janrae Frank. I'm dismayed by the lack of standards shown here. It isn't just the fact that the author is poor, but that an editor supposedly went over this, which I find so disturbing. The lack of well placed commas, needed apostrophes, clumsey sentences, and the sudden interruption in the flow of the action that the description of the orcs brings -- all of these things should have been caught and pointed out by the editors. The obvious cliche of the characters and situations does not help. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A GRAND EPIC FANTASY ADVENTURE By W. Lowe This book immediately grabs your attention with a scene depicting the brutal murder of a royal family, in which few survive. Many years later, the reader is introduced into a fascinating realm of fantasy filled with powerful wizards, mysterious elves, and treacherous villains all connected by a complex network of events that make up a great story. I am a fellow author of Helm Publishing who had first met the author of this tome at Dragoncon and then a second time at the Decatur Book Festival. And even though I had three of my own books I had written for sale, he managed to sell far more copies of his single book than I did of my trilogy. Yes, his work is that good! It attracted buyers like flies to honey. I am eagerly looking forward to the release of the second book of his Kingdom Chronicles series.
