I almost gave up but I'm glad I didn't. The ending drained me emotionally. You will need a whole pack of Kleenex. I know I did. Those last chapters had me doing the "ugly cry" in my bed for the terrible, terrible loss. This book could easily have been 5 stars but I took away the points because of the extremely slow start & the way the story drags along the way. Also certain aspects of the narration about the disorder that Adam/ Simon suffers from didn't really seem plausible. I may not have experience nor knowledge but even to me, it seemed too simplistic. I would have loved a more realistic explanation of possible treatments. It is after all a very real disease & something we can all learn from. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. ★✩★✩★ 5- Gut wrenching, Rip your heart out -Stars ★✩★✩★ By Jenn Green ★✩★✩★ 5- Gut wrenching, Rip your heart out -Stars ★✩★✩★ ~spoiler free review~ I loved Kevin, I did, but what I feel for Adam is so much more than that. It's as if he is the air that I breathe. When he isn't around I feel almost dizzy like I can't breath properly and I know he feels exactly the same. This is possibly going to be one of my shortest reviews ever. Not because I didn't like the book (HELLO 5 Stars!), but because it's really best if you go into this completely blind to truly appreciate and feel what Paige goes through-it was quite powerful. So I'm gonna give a very brief overview then leave you with my thoughts. ~Paige has suffered more loss in her young life than most can deal with and it almost destroys hershe is forced to witness her father succumbing to Alzheimer's and loses her fiancé to an armed robbery. The depression almost takes her under, but she fights her way back and vows to live her life every day to it's fullest. When she meets Adam, the attraction is instantaneous and overwhelming and it's doesn't take her long to fall for him. Adam grew up in an orphanage and has no recollection of his life prior to the age of six, he has worked hard to get where he is today and he is the first man since her fiancé Kevin was ripped away from her to make her feel like she is not alone. She can't remember ever being happier.... til she walks in on Adam in bed with another woman. Devastated, she cuts him out of her life immediately, but when a stranger shows up at her door revealing secrets of Adam's past, Paige is faced with some very difficult decisions. Knowing what she knows now- how hard is she willing to fight, and what will she endure for the man she loves? I need someone to hold me. I need someone who makes me feel safe and loved and who makes me forget about the rest of the world. I sigh. I need Adam. I sit up straight and push my shoulders back. I will not lose him. No way. First, I think it's important for you to know that I would not categorize this book as a romancethough the theme of love is strongly woven throughout the book, it's more about one woman's emotional journey for the man she loves and the utter chaos she lives through everyday to help him and keep him. This deals heavily with Alzheimer's disease & D.I.D. (Dissociative Identity

Disorder) and the effects they have on everyone involved. Paige's character is tested, her strength is stretched to the limit, and she is put in situations that no one who hasn't been in her shoes could possibly understand. If your looking for a glittery hearts and flowers romance, this is not it. This book will pull at you heart in the worst possible way and just when you think things are stating to look up, you get dealt a final death blow. And while the ending is not what some would consider an HEA, I couldn't see it ending any other way and your at least left with some closure. It really was a powerful story about what you would be willing to endure for love and at what point do you give up because maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Hats off to this author for bringing us such an incredibly intense and unique story that most definitely does not fall into the 'cookie-cutter romance' mold. Life throws us curve balls all the time. Sometimes it gets so hard that we think we will not survive. But mankind is made of sterner stuff than that. Our will to survive will not go unchallenged. We rise up again and again to fight for this precious, amazing and delicate gift we have been given. For life, for love, and for everything in between. Happy Reading xo Jenn @ Bookworm Betties 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This book should NOT be filed under romance By kyrais SPOILERS. SPOILERS. SPOILERS. I briefly debated writing this review without the spoilers, but in the end, I couldn't justify the rating without the spoilers, so read on at your own risk. TL:DR: In the end, Adam isn't the dominant "original" personality, Simon is. And there was almost no foreshadowing whatsoever. So the low rating is for a number of reasons: This book is filed under romance. If there is no happily ever after, then it is not a romance. This can be filed under women's lit, or general fiction or maybe even literary fiction, or maybe even under suspense, but without a HEA, it is categorically not a romance. It felt like the author had this idea of doing this huge twist at the end, just to be quirky or out-of-thebox and that was a problem. I usually can pinpoint plot twists far, far in advance and I felt like I had little to no warning that Simon was going to be the dominant personality. In fact, what warning there was came at the very end, near the last quarter of the book when it came out that Simon's parents had been killed by the people who abducted him. That was not even nearly enough set-up to warn the reader that this was going to happen. I also felt like the author deliberately set things up so there was the Lizzie/Paige and Simon/Adam thing on purpose so she could have this more literary ending and it really didn't work for me because it honestly felt contrived. Paige could get along with all of the alters but not the main personality? How very convenient for setting up this ending. And really, Simon is just a dick. Why is Simon a dick? That felt very contrived and just bulls***ty to me. Again, it felt like the author wanted a specific ending and twisted the entire story to make it that way. I might have been willing to play along more if there was more foreshadowing, or even any foreshadowing, and if the story had just been longer. Instead, there's this silly sop to the idea of

putting this story in the category of romance by saying she managed to get married to someone in the end, but none of that is shown. It's a ridiculous bandaid over a gaping wound. At the end, I felt like I had been dragged through a hedge butt first with nothing to gain from it. I don't know how accurate the author has been towards multiple personalities and disassociative identities and maybe the way she ended the story was more "true to life" but I don't read romances for "real life". I read them because I want to invest myself in a character's happy ending and I want to see it happen. This story failed on those fronts. I didn't feel like Paige's suffering was "rewarded" and that she had a proper happy ending and to be honest, the ending made me want to toss my tablet across the room in frustration. And as to that, even the "happy ending" was marred by Adam showing up and being sad. So the entire thing ended on a tragic note where I felt like Steven (her husband in the end) was just a cardboard paper cutout consolation prize rather than someone she fell in love with and couldn't live without. Lastly, it doesn't even make SENSE that Simon is the primary. Simon wasn't there, at all, so now I have to wonder how Simon is dealing with the business that Adam built, with all of Adam's colleagues, and all that jazz. The thing is, Simon presents as such a douche that I'm not sure how Simon would even take over Adam's life. If Simon couldn't even like the woman that Adam loved, nothing is going to convince me that he can just integrate into Adam's life. And at this point, I'm going to go research this mental disorder because it doesn't even make sense... In the end, it's about reader consent and pretty much everything that happened towards the end was non-con to the max. I read and liked The Traveller, but now I'm probably not going to take a chance on her other books. See all 177 customer reviews...
