Herbrand I stayed up until 1AM reading this book because I just knew that I had to finish it. It was fantastic. The author took a very tough subject and handled it with great sensitivity. Brooke was perfect as the teenage protagonist against this group of boys who treated the girls in their school as toys. She was deluded, as a teenager would be, into thinking that she would be able to handle anything that came up on her own - and she wanted to avenge her friend Beth's death. Along the way, though, she does come up with some colorful allies. Terry, the head chef from her job, becomes her computer hacker, and is able to get her all kinds of information that confirms her suspicions. Gretchen, her best friend from her old school, gets wrapped up in the plot when one of the swim team members takes a liking to her. Then there is Ryan, they are instantly attracted to each other, though they each seem to be trying to keep their distance. Brooke is trying not to have any romantic attachments, because she thinks it will thwart her plans for revenge. Try as she might though, she can't stay away from Ryan. He ends up playing an unlikely role in the end anyway. Speaking of endings, I thought the author wrapped this up beautifully. It could have been a tragic ending, but it contained hope and healing. I will agree with the disclaimer above though, there is explicit language and descriptions of sexual violence, but they were essential to the story. 22 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Took my breath away! By Kristee Walker Wow. Just wow.... actually.. No, still just Wow. The story starts with Brooke getting ready to attend her best friend Beth's funeral. A friend that's hadnt spoken to her in months because she found out Brooke messed around with her boyfriend.

Brooke has immense feelings of guilt, and takes on a personal mission to take down a guy who hurt Beth in hopes of making it up to her friend. From there this story covers soooo many topics, controversial and not. Love, regret, lies, betrayal, family, friendship, hope, pain, anger, sadness, depression, recovery, foregiveness, happiness! Talk about taking you through the wringer! Brooke I swear is a bit on the nuts side! Her thoughts were scattered sometimes. I liked that the story didn't have an insta-happy ending for Brooke and she had to work long and hard to get to her place of happiness again, which is so true of real life. Stories always tend to just make everything ok at the end. Everyone needs a friend like Gretchen, and a dad like Brooke's. (I loved how protective he was of her). I enjoyed the book thoroughly, even though I cringed through some parts (I was a bit worried at one point on how graphic it might get- so beware). 21 of 25 people found the following review helpful. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK******** No two people ever read the same book. -Unknown 2.5 Stars Please keep the above saying in mind while reading my review, especially since I seem to be in the minority here. I can see what all the hype is about with this book. Truly I can. There is a raw edginess to the story that grips you from the beginning. There is a lot of tough subject matter addressed in the book. Things that have you saying WTF or shaking your head in disgust. Things that unfortunately are very much a part of today's society. But Brooke was not the MC I needed her to be. For someone who was supposedly eighteen, she was very immature. Many times I believed I had read her age wrong and would go back just to reassure myself that I was not crazy. So many of her actions reminded me more of a 15/16 year old. In no way does being 18 make you an adult overnight, but I do believe it brings with it a maturity level that Brooke was obviously lacking. And Brooke set herself up to be a victim. She wanted to be a victim! This is the main part of the story I can not wrap my brain around. She somehow thought she would be able to handle the situation better than the others before her. I just could not see it and it showed just how naive she truly was. And the fact that several adults knew what she was trying to do and did NOTHING to stop her! WTH?!?!?! Even if she was too stupid to see the fault in her plans, how could the adults not see it? Why did they not intervene and put a stop to things? Rape is a very serious subject matter, so to write an MC that wants it to happen to her so she can see her plan of revenge through? Yeah, that was a major hurdle for me to get over. Again, I can see where the story could have been a great read for some. As long as you liked Brooke's character then the rest was there. Awesome plot, amazing writing. But for me, I need a strong and believable MC to back up everything that is going on around him/her. Brooke was not
