Turn Up the Heat By deb1210 After getting out of prison, Kincaid has to go to Oregon and situate his grandma's estate. He also needs to deal with the issue that landed him in prison to begin with. He is struggling adjusting to his freedom, but it remains clear he is out for revenge. What he doesn't expect is meeting Lily. Lily is an aspiring chef living with her sister after a bad breakup with her ex. He didn't like her tastes in the bedroom and pulled her job and apartment from her because of it. She is waiting tables at a diner to get back on her feet. She has hopes of returning to Chicago and getting back to work as a chef for a good restaurant. One day while working, Caid stops in the diner. Their chemistry is off the charts! Neither are looking for a relationship, but just a little scratching the itch. I enjoyed this book. I liked both characters and I liked the initial set-up. Unfortunately,there were a few things that kept it from being a spectacular read for me. I usually like this type of bookpredictable or not-but there was just too much inner dialog to keep track of. I like having some, because it gives us background as to why they react the way they do, but it was a little much and it ended up distracting me. I would've rather seen the characters have a few getting-to-know you conversations between the two. The sex scenes were sizzling, however, and I loved them. Both seemed to bring out the best in the other. I didn't like how the author kept harping on that what they liked and did, especially Lily, was forbidden. People like what they like and if its consensual, then no harm done. The plot did move along and there were some rather funny moments. Overall, it was an easy read and the writing was good. 3 stars/4 flames This book was provided to me by The Jeep Diva for the express purpose of an honest review. I really enjoyed the characters and the premise of the book By DiDi - Guilty Pleasures BR I really liked the unexpected nature of this book. Our main character Kincaid Graves is trying to right a wrong that occurred years prior. His problem is, he notices Lilly and wants to be all kinds of dirty with the waitress at the diner. Kincaid had a dark dangerous, edgy side as well as a protective caring side.
Lilly is a sweet girl who is currently down on her luck. She seeks comfort with her sister and her family while she tries to get back on her feet. I liked her character but felt she was a bit young and naive in her thinking on how to be successful. She was so concerned with getting out of the town that she didn’t realize what she had. I really enjoyed the characters and the premise of the book there were some odd plot points. Lilly’s father was killed in a work place accident and the settlement only covered her to go to culinary school. The other odd part was the length Kincaid prison term. I didn’t think he should have been in as long as he was in. While I found these odd it didn’t deter my enjoyment of this book. By Pat Fordyce Kincaid (Caid) Graves is an ex-con who spent almost eight years in maximum security for trying to protect his grandma from her second husband who was abusing her. He used to be a good man, but prison is impossible for a good man. His goal is to not let her husband steal her legacy, she passed away while he was in jail. He does not want to go back to prison, but he has to make things right. Lily McKee is a waitress in the Tierney Bay Diner temporarily living with her sister and her family. She was a rising star chef in Chicago until a breakup with her boyfriend/mentor left her with no job and homeless. She doesn't mind working in the diner, but she desperately wants to cook. She's fascinated by the big, very quiet man who reads books at one of her tables almost every night and she can't deny the attraction, but what would come of it....she's leaving. Their first encounter is rough and hot, up against a wall. But, for a man who hasn't had sex for many years and a woman who has been waiting for a guy who meets her needs, it's explosive. They both agree their can be no commitment, but they can't deny it's going to happen again. A friendship grows, they talk, look forward to seeing each other and enjoy their intimate times together....a lot. But Caid is holding back, afraid she will walk away, but also hoping she will. Lily keeps reminding herself she has to leave, but does she really want to now? Their is a suspenseful side to the story, Caid's search for his grandmothers Will that might send him back to prison. Sex with no strings, that turns into a love story. This novel has a lot of facets, and I enjoyed them all. I received this ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.
