I couldn’t be more satisfied with this series finale! By RabidReads KILLER FROST has everything you could possibly want in a series finale; from the suspenseful build-up, to the end all battle, to every character’s HEA. I loved how Jennifer Estep concluded MYTHOS ACADEMY, and I’m positive that fellow fans of Gwen Frost will agree. This installment is beautifully paced with just the right amount of pages allotted to the story set-up, final showdown, and tying up loose ends. I expected the last fight between Gwen, the pantheon, the reapers and Loki to be epic, and Estep certainly delivered. She took her time detailing every kick, swing, and dodge which transformed this novel’s closing chapters into a live action brawl that unfolded inside my head. I loved that Gwen put everything she has learned about the artifacts from working at the Library of Antiquities to good use to help her defeat the trickster god; it added meaning to her journey thus far and established clear links to all of the previous books. Estep ensures that every character, secondary and main alike, has a role to play in this series conclusion. Logan, Daphne, Carson, Oliver, Alexie, Metis, Nickamedes, Grandma Frost, Rory, Rachel, Nyx, and Vic… they are all by Gwen’s side fighting the good fight. I liked how practically every protagonist got their own version of a HEA; except for Rory—do I sense a possible spin-off in the future? For several installments now, I’ve been speculating about who Raven really is, and what’s the purpose of the stone statues, and this novel answers those questions too. I was blown away by the completeness of this story; I don’t think Jennifer Estep missed a single thing! Gwen doesn’t have it easy in KILLER FROST; she’s overly paranoid about reaper attacks, and has the weight of the world on her shoulders thanks to the added pressure of knowing that she’s the one who’s supposed to kill Loki. Then her grandmother gets kidnapped, and she’s forced to choose between one life and many. Even though the ending may give you heart failure, I have to hand it to Gwen because she really does give it her all and proves herself worthy of being called Nike’s champion. Frost is no longer “that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about” but a bona fide heroine who should be proud of how far she’s come, and hold her head up high. I will miss Gwen Frost and her crew of misfits, but as a reader, I couldn’t be more satisfied with this series finale. Thank you Jennifer Estep for dotting all your i’s and crossing all your t’s; KILLER FROST is a masterpiece and I can’t wait to see where your writing is going to take you next. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. 4.5 stars By Jennifer @ Bad Bird Reads At A Glance What a great ending to a great series. The Good NOOOOO! It’s over. The world it ending. Life as we know it is kaput! Okay, maybe it’s not that bad, but when I found out this was the last book of the series I wanted to hit lots and lots of things, and maybe a few people. ;) So, yes, this is it. No more Mythos Academy. But what a hell of a ride, right? This was by far the best book of the series. Almost everything I would complain about with each book was blessedly not present in Killer Frost. The pacing was perfect. I wasn’t bored for a second,
and the story as a whole felt solid and complete. Each character got their own little happy ending (for the most part) and it all felt right! Gwen has grown so much since book 1. She has lost most of her insecurities and shyness and has become her own woman and warrior. She took this story by the balls and kicked ass and took names. Gwen refused to be pushed over or intimidated. She took a lot if risks in Killer Frost because it felt right and that’s all that mattered. She didn’t let anyone stand in her way, even her friends. She finally realized that this fight with Loki and the Reapers was bigger than her and that sacrifices had to be made. But that didn’t mean she would let another of her loved ones get hurt. Never that. Gwen became the badass rule breaker I always hoped she would become and I loved reading every second of her journey. I loved how much strategy Gwen and the others came up with this time around. I didn’t like the feeling of randomness and luck with the battles in the last books. This time Gwen almost always had a plan and they made sense. She didn’t go into anything blind or unprepared. And the support from her friends was so heartwarming. That has always been my favorite part of this series, the amazing friendships these kids have. I think anyone would be lucky to have loyal and caring friends like Gwen has gained. The writing, as always, was great, and the dialogue was funny and natural. I would recommend Mythos Academy series to all YA lovers. I hope to see these characters again someday. Hint, hint, Estep! The Bad I wanted a little more time with Logan and Gwen together. It felt like Logan was MIA for a good part of the book. And for three-fourths of the story Logan and Gwen’s relationship was rocky. The past was still haunting them and only at the very end were they starting to be okay. The Snuggly Even though I wish there was more good times with Logan and Gwen, I still loved them together and was happy with how their relationship fared i the end. The loving was very YA, just kissing. Final Thoughts If you loved this series from the beginning, then you will be blown away by the ending. It was almost perfect. Everything and everyone had an ending that felt right. If you haven’t, you should start this series soon! Highly recommended. Quotes “They always have a plan within a plan within a plan. Amazing ending to an amazing series! By Lili Lost in a Book This book was GREAT!! It's the final battle with Loki, and only one will come out on top... Gwen's been through hell and back, and then things get worse. Loki and the Reapers endanger the life of someone Gwen dearly loves... This is the last straw for Gwen! She has just about had it with the Reapers, and their latest stunt has pushed Gwen over the edge! Gwen will do anything to rescue this person she loves... and when I say anything, I mean anything... Even maybe doom humanity. Okay, I may be exaggerating a bit here, but her decision seriously freaked me out! Anyway, more on that later ;) The time has come to end all this--it's either destroy Loki or get killed by him. Gwen's battle is about to begin, and with the help of her friends, they might just come out on top. Cross your fingers... Guys, I probably don't have to mention how much I LOVED this book, right? ;) But just in case... I love the story, love the mythology (big DUH!), love Logan freaking Quinn... I just love it all! It is the best series EVER and it makes me so sad that it is over!! *sobs* Killer Frost was full of action (as always), with all the reaper fighting, Loki fighting, and all the other fighting, lol. It was beyond suspenseful, with Gwen's crazy plan I was freaking about, whether said plan was going to work or not, and would she be able to defeat Loki? Gah! I was terrified for her! And oh my gods all my other feels! Logan! My poor Logan! He kept reliving the horrible, terrible thing Loki did to him, and that just pulled at my heart strings! I honestly cried :( I just love him so hard! Just thinking about what happened to him in Crimson Frost and him remembering his fears in Spartan Frost is making me want to cry all over again! Speaking of lovable, yummy guys, I LOVE Oliver and Alexei! Now that's a hot pair of guys... and they make such an adorable couple!! I also love the snarky Valkyrie :) She and Carson make such a cute couple, too! And man does Gwen have the most amazing friends ever! Seriously love every single one of them, including Nyx and Vic! We also got to see more of Rory, which I thought was great since I find her very interesting. Speaking of interesting, Nickamedes surprised me! Him helping Gwen? Um, what? Didn't see that one coming. He does start to grow on you after a while though ;) And that ending? Holy wow! It was so surprising and twisty, full of sacrifices, with a very heartwarming flash-forward that put a huge grin on my face and brought tears to my eyes. It just made me very happy :) I *heart* Logan and Gwen and this world (and the mythology) and I'm going to miss it all so much! I'm so sad that it's over, but man what a fantastic ending! I feel like a blabbed a lot but I just can't find the words to describe how much love I have for this series! Just go out and read this series! You'll see what I'm talking about ;) (For the record, I used the word "love" about 12 times in this review... that should give you a hint about how much I, ahem, love this book ;))
