Heartfelt memoir, great scholarship, delicious Hollywood dish all at once. I finished the final chapter in tears wondering how in the world he'd manged to weave such a beautiful story. Not only does he take us on a dramatic journey through the making of the Godfather films, he also offers us his heart. His own journey to rediscover and reclaim his Italian American Identity. To honor the scrappy passionate ancestors who paved the way in this chaotic new land. This is a smart and moving story of a man finding his place in the world, his love for this immigrant country of ours. Simply a great read. By George De Stefano Entirely derivative of what other writers have written about "The Godfather," padded with some family background. (The author is half-Italian, half-WASP). A competent pastiche, but that's about it. 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Here's a Book You Can't Refuse By Greg Hatfield I just finished this book and wanted to write about it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a look at the Godfather films , with interesting facts about each one, but it's really the story of the author's family, themselves immigrants from Italy, interspersed with how their lives correspond with the Corleones. It's touching to read about their early life and how they came to America looking for something that may not even exist anymore and it makes one lament that fact. In between stories about his family, there are critiques and comments about all of the Godfather films. What I enjoyed was the great comments about Part III, a much maligned film. Yes, GIII has flaws, some fatal, but it is an intelligent film and there are many aspects of it that fit into the Saga. Santopietro breaks it all down and puts it in a great perspective. Fans of the Saga will enjoy this book immensely and, as a true Godfather fan, I recommend it. See all 11 customer reviews...
