From the Author Past Lives is the first installment in the Past Lives paranormal thriller/mystery series. The sequel is likely to be available in late 2012 or early to mid 2013. Past Lives is the result of the combination of my interest in hypnosis, my love of thrillers and my fascination with how how a concept like reincarnation might affect the lives and relationships of a group of people thrown together by conflict and fate. Each book in the series will follow several of the main characters, while other characters may come and go, with old characters reappearing and new characters added as the story unfolds toward the series climax. Past Lives is similar to my second, standalone novel, Dark Halo, in that both novels include a healthy dose of paranormal and supernatural elements. Both novels contain fairly short, punchy chapters with a fast pace and ample conflict. In other words, I tried to write the kinds of books I love to read: fast, interesting, well-written and (hopefully) unputdownable. As Past Lives is my both my first written and first published novel, it holds a special place in my life. I hope that you enjoy reading this first book in the series as much as I enjoyed writing it! He spent the next three years laboring over this book, getting married to his college sweetheart, having a beautiful daughter and more or less finding his stride in life.
A national trainer and speaker, he has presented at local, state and national conferences on communication, writing, storytelling, body language, facilitation skills and cultural sensitivity. Christopher Kokoski is author of numerous articles, short stories, training materials, the standalone novel, Dark Halo and the paranormal thriller series Past Lives. Great story, fun read By Candice Bear in mind, when I first opened this book,I knew that it was this author's first novel and I kept that in mind. I would never review this novel with the same expectations as a novel by Dean Koontz or Stephen King. I was looking for an intriguing storyline and a fun read; that's exactly what I got. I thought the beginning of the book moved a little too fast - I would have loved more detail in the characters involved but as the book went on I got more of a feel for them. As I reached midway through, I was turning pages almost as fast as I could read to find out what happened next. I liked the way the during the chase each chapter left me hanging as the perspective changed from character to character. Overall, I thought for a first novel it was a clean, simple, fun read with an unlikely hero, a cold and evil villainess, and the forlorn cop trying to redeem himself from a falsely perceived wrong. I enjoyed it immensely and am glad I bought Dark Halo at the same time. I look forward to future novels! 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Love it! By Am1specialkitty I am very picky about what I read. I am not a person who does a lot of reading. A book has to be good to capture my attention and keep me interested. I found this book very creative. I don't know of another writer that captures the essence of rebirth of a serial killer. It kept me on edge, gave me nightmares and I was always left with wanting to know more. The only problem I saw with the book were the grammar and spelling errors. The publisher did not do this writer justice by just printing the book as is. Editors should have done a better job of reading and correcting the errors. However, if you look past this, the book is just what you would want in a mystery/murder novel. If not for the grammatical errors I would give this book a 5 star rating. 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. A gripping read By Jenny Thomson (Hell To Pay) I enjoy reading new crime writers as they often bring a fresh approach to the genre. Past Lives is Christopher Kokoski's first novel and hopefully it won't be his last. The opening immediately catches your attention. We have a pregnant woman in peril. We want her
to reach home safely, but in the tradition of the best prologues we know the chances of that are slim. The introduction to our hero Eric Shooter is a swift one. He's plunged into a nightmare when he's accused of the murder of a pregnant woman by a cop vowing to `take him down.' How does he prove his innocence when he was found beside the body and his name was carved into her stomach? You'll need to read the book to find out. When you're writing crime it can be difficult coming up with something new. The author manages to pull it off with his central character who turns out to be a reincarnated serial killer. I've read all kinds of crime books and I've never read one with that novel twist. Overall, this was an enjoyable read. The pace hardly dropped and there were cliff hangers aplenty. You can't help liking Shooter either - an ordinary guy caught up in an extraordinary situation - and be rooting for him every step of the way. I look forward to reading Kokoski's next book. This book reminded me of the Gregg Hurwitz books I enjoy reading, which are also about ordinary guys caught in extraordinary situations. See all 19 customer reviews...
