Pros: • Could be useful as a reference in academic writing • Provides history of animal law in each country addressed Cons: • Poorly organized – Goes by subjects (food, companion, etc.) and then by country within chapter; reiterates many already discussed viewpoints in each chapter
• Obviously biased towards animal rights/liberation and not animal welfare (research the authors) • Written in eloquent, but wordy, “lawyer-speak” • Does not include much explanation on practices (CAFOs, gestation crates) used in animal agriculture • Does not necessarily reflect actual treatment of animals when referencing laws; the book repeatedly states the law, but then admits that the country or countries involved routinely break the law or do not observe the law at all. Few examples of this are provided, but not an in-depth discussion. This is a LAW book, so I may be overly critical based on what I was hoping for. However, if you are a lawyer, go for it.
