Shelley, the female m/c, was the hardest for me to relate to but I felt a lot of compassion for her. She's had a stressful pregnancy, just lost her husband, had a difficult labor, is a new first time mother to twins, and her hormones are all out of whack. I felt overwhelmed just reading about it, couldn't actually imagine going through all that while trying to keep it together for the kids. Cecine, the male m/c, is a bonafied a-hole for over half the book. He had me so steaming mad! But by the end of the book ... well ... that would be up to you to decide. Hastion, the other male m/c, made me cry. Never expected so much angst from our little exhibitionist. Those familiar with Hastion from books one and two will probably be thrown for a loop. I know I was. It forced me to take a timeout to throw all my own expectation out the window and just focus on letting his story unfold. Overall, the characters had me all over the place emotionally, from laughing to crying and everything in between. This story really is the author's most character driven and emotional work that I have read so far.
The erotica... Part of the book was more m/f focused while other parts were more m/m focused, but there was also some ménage. All the sex scenes were kinky and delicious except for one that was not to my personal preference, but it was still very well written. Overall... The story had a lot more drama and angst than I was expecting, but it made for an emotional read. I would recommend this to science fiction lovers that like hot alien sex. This book opens with Shelly giving birth to her twins and finding out her husband was an undercover alien on earth and was killed trying to sabotage the space ship she is on. Angst and drama right out of the gate and it continues throughout with her mates, (which she doesn't know she is mated to) Minister Cacine and Ensign Hastion. The first two thirds of the book is all about these characters and how broken they are. Although this was an interesting way to give us some very specific details into the history of this world, for me, it did drag on just a bit. The final third of the book saved it from being too much. The twists and turns that happen were surprising, although all the clues were there. I see another twist in the road ahead. Can't wait. Overall, this is a wonderful story in an amazing world. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Best "Overnight" yet! By Redheadvr I loved the first two books in this series, but I think this is the best one yet. Complicated, welldeveloped characters, just enough alien arrogance and underhanded manipulation of the heroine to keep it interesting, without any outright cruelty or bullying.
