Product Data Sheet: Polyethylene Foam (PE) Polyethylene (PE) describes a range of closed cell foams. They are made in block (bun) form, or extruded. They are available in a range of densities (molecular weights) and hardnesses. Properties. The closed cell structure of PE’s makes them impermeable to water and moisture intrusion, to fungi, bacteria, and to air. PE’s have a high thermal resistance, are light in weight, flexible and compressible, with moderate recovery after long-term compression. Applications. PE’s are used for impact absorption and protection in industrial applications, packaging, load deflection, thermal barriers and marine flotation. Products range from liners in padded and protective clothing, spa covers, camping mats, boat fenders, floats and pontoons.
