PERMEATION OF CATHOLICITY: INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMMING AND SCHOOL CULTURE Background The district adheres to the principle that our Catholic faith is integrated into every program and every aspect of school life; this is called permeation. The concept of permeation recognizes that Catholic identity finds expression in every dimension of a Catholic school. Even though there is continuous pressure in society to separate the secular and the religious (Church and State), as Catholics we are called by baptism to live our faith every moment of every day. Procedures 1. In all aspects of school life, students, staff and administration will encounter a fusion of faith and culture whereby the day-to-day activities will be experienced as authentically Catholic. 2. Administrators and staff are responsible for the permeation of Catholicity in schools and classrooms and will seek opportunities within each Program of Studies for Religious Education to make connections to the Catholic perspective by integrating the faith dimension into each subject area. 3. As educators within the district, teachers will deliver the mandated Program of Studies for Religious Education as prescribed by the Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary and the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB). 4. There are many teaching and learning opportunities for permeation of the faith in schools. In developing school mission and vision statements, staff will include Catholicity as a primary focus. Every time someone invites a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, encourages a spiritual dimension of learning, challenges students to explore morality in light of the Gospel values and calls students to reflect on the teachings of the Catholic Church, permeation of the faith is taking place.
