“Painting” Options 5 – Cubist Face (portrait) 5 – Cityscape (landscape) 5 – 1-pt Perspective Name (portrait or landscape) 6 - Fish Painting (landscape) 6 - Georgia O’Keeffe Flower (square) 6 - Deer Colored Pencil Drawing (portrait) 7 - Progression Drawing (portrait) 7 - Stippled OJ Glass or 2-bowled pot (portrait) 7 - Braque Guitar (with colored pencil) (landscape) 8 - Expressive Self-Portrait (portrait) 8 - Chuck Close Self-Portrait (portrait) 5, 6, 7, 8 – Masterpiece (portrait or landscape) Mondrian Inspired Painting (portrait, landscape, square or diamond)

“Painting” Options Here are some of the things that you have done in the past from which you can select to put on your walls.

5th Grade – Cubist Face

5th Grade – 1 Point Perspective Name

5th Grade – Cityscape

This will NOT use the same 2 vanishing points as your gallery.

6th Grade – Fish Painting

You may use acrylic paints or colored pencils for this on your project.

6th Grade – Georgia O’Keeffe Drawing

You may use colored pencil for this on your project. Your border may be fewer shapes. Notice this is a square for when you do your blank canvases.

6th Grade – Georgia O’Keeffe Drawing

You could do an Andy Warhol effect and have 4 of your flowers with different color schemes with them. These won’t need the borders.

6th Grade – Deer Head Colored Pencil Drawing

7th Grade – Progression Drawing

7th Grade – Progression Drawing

This is a great one to do with 4 “paintings” on a wall.

7th Grade – Stippled OJ Glass or 2-bowled Pot

7th Grade – George Braque Guitar (colored pencil)

8th Grade – Chuck Close Self-Portrait

If you’re super stoked about doing this, I have new dimensions for this…it would be 28x20 squares. The horizontal lines would go to one of the vanishing points.

8th Grade – Expressive Self-Portrait

This should be done with acrylic paints, and no border. Same process as the actual project.

5th-8th Grade – Masterpiece

Piet Mondrian Here are some paintings that Mondrian did. You are not to copy them, but use them as inspiration for a bunch of random black lines and primary colored rectangles. Horizontal lines will go to a vanishing point.

“Sculpture” Options 5th Grade – Fingerbiter 6th Grade – Clay or Paper Mache Fish 6th Grade – Henry Moore Sculpture 7th Grade – 2-Bowled Pot 8th Grade – African Mask Screamer Ceramics Project

“Sculpture” Options Unfortunately, there haven’t been a lot of 3-dimensional pieces that we’ve done, but here are the options that you can select from to put on your pedestals.

5th Grade – Fingerbiter

6th Grade – Paper Mache’ Fish or

Relief Sculpture

You might have to put this on a “pole” or something

th 6

Grade – Henry Moore Sculpture

7th Grade – 2-bowled Pot

th 8

Grade – African Mask

You might have to put this on a “pole” or something.

Elective - Screamer

Elective - Ceramics

There’s too many to show examples of here. So please ask me if you remember one from your past.

STEP ONE WALLS

At approximately the middle of the page, draw a vertical line starting 1 inch from the top and ending 4 inches from the bottom.

1 in

Start at 1 in from top

4 in

End at 14 in from top

Measure the distance from both sides of the paper to ensure it’s perpendicular to the bottom.

Draw another vertical line roughly the same height anywhere from 4-6 inches from the left side of the paper.

4-6 in

Be sure to measure the distance from the top and bottom of the line to the side of the paper to ensure it’s perpendicular to the bottom.

Draw another vertical line roughly the same height anywhere from 4-6 inches from the right side of the paper.

4-6 in

Be sure to measure the distance from the top and bottom of the line to the side of the paper to ensure it’s perpendicular to the bottom.

Aim the top of the middle line to the right VP

FYI – red lines are not to be drawn…they’re there to show you where to aim you upcoming line.

Draw a line from the top of the middle line until it hits the right line.

Erase the top part of the right line.

Aim the bottom of the middle line to the right VP

Draw a line from the bottom of the middle line until it hits the right line.

Erase the bottom part of the right line.

To create the 4th wall, aim the top of the 3rd vertical line to the left VP.

Draw the line backwards from the line.

Aim the bottom of the 3rd vertical line to the left VP.

Draw the line backwards from the line.

Aim the top of the middle line to the left VP

Draw a line from the top of the middle line until it hits the left line.

Erase the top part of the left line.

Aim the bottom of the middle line to the left VP.

Draw a line from the bottom of the middle line until it hits the left line.

Erase the bottom part of the left line.

To create the 1st wall, aim the top of the 1st vertical line to the right VP.

Draw the line backwards from the line.

Aim the bottom of the 1st vertical line to the right VP.

Draw the line backwards from the line.

STEP TWO PAINTINGS

Each wall needs to have a minimum of 1 painting. The following directions are for a variety of numbers of paintings on each wall. Please learn from these directions if you’re doing things differently.

Think about the shape and proportion of each painting that you’re putting on each wall.

Make each rectangle approximately the correct shape.

Whatever “paintings” you decide to put on which wall, the main thing to remember is to make the top and bottom of the “painting” to go to the same vanishing point as the top and bottom of the wall that it’s on.

Painting on Wall 3

Draw a vertical line on the left side of the wall 1 inch away from the middle line.

Horizon Line

HINT: If you have a painting totally above or below the horizon line, then you’ll have to do the top or bottom of the painting too.

Draw a vertical line on the right side of the wall.

Aim the top of the left line to the right VP.

Since the top of the painting is on a wall whose top and bottom go to the right VP, the painting’s lines will go to the right VP.

Draw the line for the top of the painting.

Aim the bottom of the left line to the right VP.

Draw the line for the bottom of the painting.

DEPTH – Aim the top left corner of the painting to the left VP.

Because the top and bottom of the painting go to the right VP, you will be able to see the left side of the painting, thus that edge goes to the left VP.

Draw a very short line to the left VP.

Aim the bottom left corner of the painting to the left VP.

Draw the same size very short line to the left VP.

Draw a vertical line between the short lines to show the back side of the painting.

4 paintings on wall 2 (If you’re putting only one painting on this wall, adjust accordingly.)

Draw a long vertical line on the right side of the wall.

Notice that the top is above the HL and the bottom is below the HL.

Draw a long vertical line on the right side of the wall.

Draw a vertical line in the middle of those two lines, a little closer to the left side.

Draw another vertical line just to the right of that one.

Aim the top of the right vertical line to the left VP.

Since the top of the painting is on a wall whose top and bottom go to the left VP, the painting’s lines will go to the left VP.

Draw a line between the 1st and 2nd lines, and between the 3rd and 4th lines.

Aim the bottom of the right vertical line to the left VP.

Draw a line between the 1st and 2nd lines, and between the 3rd and 4th lines.

Aim a point slightly above halfway of the paintings to the left VP.

Draw two lines in the two paintings.

These will be the bottoms of the top two paintings.

Aim a line slightly below those two lines that you just drew.

Draw two lines under those two lines.

These will be the tops of the bottom two paintings.

Erase the lines between them to show four separate paintings.

DEPTH – Aim each of the corners of all of the paintings to the right VP.

Notice that the top two paintings are above the HL, so we will be able to see the bottom of those paintings.

Draw short lines from those corners.

Draw vertical lines to show the back sides of the paintings.

If you can see the bottom of the paintings, the back of them will aim to the left VP.

Draw the back side of the bottom of those paintings.

2 paintings on wall 1

Draw two vertical lines on the right side of the wall.

Draw the tops and bottoms of those paintings.

Draw the right sides of the paintings with vertical lines.

DEPTH - Aim the left sides of the paintings to the left VP.

Notice that since the top painting is above the HL, the bottom of the painting is visible.

Draw the short lines to show the depth.

Draw the left sides of the backs of the paintings with vertical lines.

Since the top painting is above the HL, aim the back bottom of the painting to the right VP.

Draw the back bottom of the top painting.

1 painting on wall 4

Draw the vertical lines for the sides of the painting.

Notice that since they are drawn with the tops above, and the bottoms below the HL, then you won’t have to draw the bottom of the painting.

Aim the top and bottom of the right line to the left VP.

Since the top of the painting is on a wall whose top and bottom go to the left VP, the painting’s lines will go to the left VP.

Draw the top and bottom of the painting.

Aim the right top and bottom of the painting to the right VP.

Draw the short lines to show the depth of the painting. Add the vertical line for the back side of the painting.

STEP THREE SCULPTURE PEDESTALS Do not make these small. Small pedestal = small sculpture = lower grade

Pedestal One Bottom left corner of the picture

Draw three vertical lines BELOW THE HL.

Aim the top and bottom of the middle line to both the left and right VP’s.

Draw the short lines from the middle vertical line to the VP’s until they hit the other vertical lines.

Aim the tops of the outside lines to the opposite VP’s.

Because this pedestal is below the HL, you can see the top of it.

Draw the short lines to show the back sides of the top of the pedestal.

You might need to erase the bottom of the wall that’s behind the pedestal.

Pedestal Two Bottom right corner of the picture

Draw three vertical lines BELOW THE HL.

Aim the top and bottom of the middle line to both the left and right VP’s.

Draw the short lines from the middle vertical line to the VP’s until they hit the other vertical lines.

Aim the tops of the outside lines to the opposite VP’s.

Draw the short lines to show the back sides of the top of the pedestal.

STEP FOUR BENCH

Draw two short vertical lines so that your bench will be in front of a painting.

Notice how the left edge of the bench will be right in line with wall 2.

Aim the top and bottom of the right vertical line to the left VP.

Draw the top and bottom of the side of the bench.

Aim the sides of the bench to the right VP.

Draw the vertical line for the back side of the bench.

Draw the front face of the bench with the top and bottom lines to the right VP.

Because this is below the HL, you can see the top of the bench. Aim the top corners to their opposite VP’s.

Draw the back sides of the top of the bench.

You could end there with your bench just being a long rectangular prism, but the next few steps make it more interesting.

Aim two points on the front edge of the bench to the left VP.

Draw two lines on the front edge of the side of the bench.

Draw two vertical lines.

Erase the unnecessary lines so that it gives it more character.

Aim the newly created corners to the right VP.

Draw the necessary depth lines.

The back side of the bench needs to aim to the left VP to give it depth.

Draw the short necessary line.

Draw vertical line to complete the Ibeam look of the bench. Erase any other unnecessary lines.

There you have the basic parts of your gallery.

STEP FIVE SCULPTURES

“Sculpture” Options 5 – Fingerbiter 6 – Fish Paper Mache or Relief Sculpture (ask Mr. F. for help on putting on a pole)

6 – Henry Moore Sculpture 7 – Two-bowled Pot 8 – African Mask (ask Mr. F. for help on putting on a pole)

Screamer Ceramics Project

You need to add your drawings of your sculptures before you continue.

You don’t need to color them at this point, but draw their basic shapes.

STEP SIX FLOORING

Your flooring must be either hardwood plank or tile. You can adjust things from these steps as necessary.

Aim a bunch of equally-spaced lines to the left VP.

Draw the lines to the left VP, making sure you go around the things that are sitting on the floor.

To do hardwood plank flooring, make some random lines going to the right VP.

Draw them in a random pattern, making sure that one plank doesn’t go for too long.

There’s your flooring.

STEP SEVEN LIGHTING

The lighting can be simple like these recessed lights, or you can add your own type of lights.

These fluorescent, rectangular lights are actually a better idea than the recessed (oval) canned lights. Let Mr. F. know if you want help with this.

Aim lines and draw them lightly to both VP’s right above the tops of your walls.

Draw ovals in line with each other that go to the VP’s.

A good idea for this is to make one good oval on cardstock, cut it out and use it as a template to trace around.

Erase your light lines that lined up your lights.

Draw the back side of the ovals to give them some depth.

There’s your 2 point perspective completed. Please remove the back extension papers.

NOW OUTLINE ALL OF THE LINES (except the sculpture) WITH A THIN SHARPIE – MUST USE A RULER

You will be graded on this part – 60 points

STEP EIGHT COLORING This is a separate 20 point grade

Using colored pencils, color in the floor wooden if that’s the look you want. NO PENCIL VISBALE STROKES

Color the bench and pedestals however you’d like, but do one side darker to show some shadows beginning.

Color the walls however you’d like, but you must show some light to dark fade on them from top to bottom.

Lighting may be colored yellow.

STEP NINE SHADING

Shading the edges of the paintings

Add shadows underneath the paintings. These need to fade out.

Shadows need to be going away from the pedestals and bench. This needs to fade out too.

STEP TEN ADDING YOUR PAINTINGS

“Painting” Options 5 – Cubist Face 5 - Cityscape 5 – 1-pt Perspective Name 6 - Fish Painting 6 - Georgia O’Keeffe Flower 6 - Deer Colored Pencil Drawing 7 - Progression Drawing 7 - Stippled OJ Glass or 2-bowled pot 7 - Braque Guitar (with colored pencil) 8 - Expressive Self-Portrait 8 - Chuck Close Self-Portrait 5, 6, 7, 8 - Masterpiece Mondrian Inspired Painting

“Painting” Options

You hopefully told me what paintings you

wanted and I emailed them to you already. Use them on your iPad to do

your paintings from. You may change them from what you originally told me.

Use colored pencils unless you’ve made arrangements with me.

Piet Mondrian Here are some paintings that Mondrian did. You are not to copy them, but use them as inspiration for a bunch of random black lines and primary colored rectangles.
