Personal Narrative Directions: Tell about an event that happened in your life that you will always remember. It must be ONE event that you put a lot of detail into! Use the chart below to answer questions about your event to help you put your story together. Topic Sentence of Introduction: Catchy Statement to Pull Us In:

What is the event that happened?

Catchy statement to make us want to keep reading. “Never did I expect the following to happen…or I didn’t see this coming.”

Paragraph 1: The Setting (set it up, make us see the “Before” picture. Topic Sentence of Paragraph 1: When did this take place? Where did this take place? What was the day like?

How old were you? Who was involved?

Paragraph 2-3 (however many are needed): The Event Topic Sentence of Paragraph 2, 3, etc:

What is the event?

How did it happen? Tell us details about the event that paint a picture in our minds. We need to be able to see it, hear it, smell it, you name it. (Use your timeline to help you here.) Use the back for additional information if you need it.

Conclusion: Follow up to the event. Topic Sentence of Conclusion:

What happened because of this event? Did you get hurt? Did you win an award?

Sum up the important information.

What did you learn from this event?

Why will you always remember the event?
