Lisa Ford-Berry walked away from a corporate career when her son Michael Joseph Berry became a victim of a peer abuse driven bullycide on his 17th birthday, September 15, 2008. As a grieving parent, she knows the horrible heartache of bullycide. She knows the looks. She knows the stares. She knows the whispers. She knows the pain. B.R.A.V.E is in honor of her son Michael, and any other child who has suffered, from peer abuse in the form of victim, bystander or bully. Michael’s legacy is awareness, and her mission is accountability. To that end, Lisa has created a stirring, sober and a resourceful handbook on one of the greatest challenges facing our children and our schools to date - peer abuse. BE BRAVE Say Something; Do Something is written from her own account and experience. Additionally, Lisa has co-authored peer abuse awareness state legislation, as well as created empathy enhancing experiential training that gives students the unique opportunity to make themselves heard. She has also created a community wide solution focused prevention and intervention conference that takes place every October. Lisa’s work fosters understanding so parents and educators can work together to promote peace. She collaborates with like-minded organizations such as the A2A Alliance based on core beliefs that service, purpose, and empathy help create a resilient state of mind that allows us to celebrate human dignity. We all look for what we see now it is time to focus on what we feel and don’t see in order to celebrate the joy that comes from owning the risks we take in a world largely immune to our control.
