Pharmacy Global Health Interest Group (PGHIG) Mission The mission of Pharmacy Global Health Interest Group is to promote awareness of and involvement in global health initiatives within the School of Pharmacy.

Pharmacy Global Health Interest Group Bylaws Updated: 04/2016 I. Name The name of this organization shall be known as the Pharmacy Global Health Interest Group (PGHIG). 1. Membership A. Any student enrolled in the University of Wisconsin—School of Pharmacy or undergraduate student pursuing pre-pharmacy studies shall be eligible for membership. B. Voting eligibilities in PGHIG is discontinued upon graduation from the School of Pharmacy. C. All members must pay membership dues, amount as determined by the executive committee, in order to receive full membership benefits of PGHIG meals, voting rights, and capabilities to run for office. i. Executive committee may approve by a majority vote to grant full membership benefits under extenuating circumstances of financial need. 2. Organization Funds A. Any activity recommended by PGHIG and approved by the Executive Committee may serve as a source of income for PGHIG. B. Prior to spending, all expenditures require approval of the Treasurer. C. No PGHIG officer, advisor, or member shall incur any monetary gain from PGHIG. 3. Society Structure and Leadership A. Officers of the Executive Committee shall consist of the following: Two co-presidents, one secretary, one treasurer, one student-senate representative, and one webmaster, all of whom shall be elected by the entire PGHIG membership. i. All officers shall be enrolled in the University of Wisconsin—School of Pharmacy and shall have at least two semesters remaining at the start of the term of office.

ii. All officers shall conform to the eligibility requirements set forth by the Student Organization Handbook. iii. Any vacant position can be filled by appointment at a later date by the elected Executive Committee. iv. Members of the Executive Committee are required to attend all executive and general membership meetings, except in case of extenuating circumstances in which case adequate notice must be given to the president or vice-president. 4. Executive Committee Officer Duties A. Duties of the Co-Presidents include but may not be limited to: i. To coordinate officer and general member meetings; create member meeting agenda; ii. To brainstorm meeting ideas and semester events; iii. To contact speakers and/or coordinate with other student organizations; iv. To meet with advisor to discuss organizational affairs; v. To act as a general representative for PGHIG; vi. To attend or appoint representative(s) to attend general meetings outside the School of Pharmacy related to global health (i.e. Center for Global Health, Global Health Student Alliance). vii. To reserve rooms for meetings; B. Duties of the Secretary include but may not be limited to: i. To record organized meeting minutes at all executive and general membership meetings; ii. To keep track of membership list and update membership email list; iii. To inform members and other students of the School of Pharmacy of monthly meetings or events. C. Duties of the Treasurer include but may not be limited to: i. To be responsible for all funds of PGHIG; ii. To maintain complete and accurate financial records; iii. To issue payments incurred by PGHIG; iv. To apply for and manage the Associated Students of Madison (ASM) grant money. D. Duties of the Student Senate Representative include but may not be limited to: i. To attend monthly School of Pharmacy student senate meetings as a voting member; ii. To record proceedings of student senate meetings and report to PGHIG at executive meetings; iii. To fulfill responsibilities on student senate committees; iv. To represent interests of PGHIG at all student senate meetings. E. Duties of the Webmaster include but may not be limited to: i. To create and maintain PGHIG website; ii. To update the website monthly with events, meeting minutes, and other necessary electronic files; iii. To maintain the mailing list for PGHIG. F. Duties of the Spanish Roundtable Coordinator include but may not be limited to:

i. To coordinate a monthly casual get together for students to practice speaking Spanish; ii. To send out invites to students and reserving a place for the event; iii. To plan topics for discussion or activities for the event. G. Duties of the Co-Community Outreach Coordinators include but may not be limited to: i. To plan at least one health-related event in the Madison community during the course of the year; ii. To inform members of events taking place in the community that align with interests of PGHIG; iii. To sponsor a Be The Match bone marrow drive on the UW-Madison campus. 5. PGHIG Advisors A. PGHIG shall have no less than one advisor, who must be a faculty member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy. B. Duties of the PGHIG advisor will include but may not be limited to: i. To act as a consultant to members and officers on PGHIG matters; ii. To provide continuity to PGHIG operations from one year to the next; iii. To be available for advice and ideas as needed on subjects such as internal problems, fundraisers, service projects, etc. C. The advisor may assist in reviewing any needed changes in the Bylaws necessary to ensure that they are current and responsive to the needs of PGHIG. D. Recruitment and replacement of advisor(s) shall be done by the Executive Committee with the assistance of the Dean of the School of Pharmacy. 6. Election of Officers A. Nomination of officers i. Announcements shall be made at the first meeting of the spring semester or the nomination of officers for following academic year. ii. Nominations may come from any active member of PGHIG and may include selfnomination. iii. Nominations forms and nominations of individuals will be accepted beginning at the second meeting of the spring semester. iv. If nominated by another member, the nominee may orally accept nomination, followed by submission of a written nomination form. v. The candidate must be an active member of PGHIG. vi. The candidate must be able to complete the full term of office while enrolled in the University of Wisconsin at Madison. vii. Nominations of candidates may be accepted prior to closing nominations at the election meeting, and application forms must be turned in at that time. B. Election of officers i. The person voting shall be an active member of PGHIG.

ii. Voting members must register at the time of the election in order to receive official ballots. iii. Elections shall take place under the supervision of the co-presidents and PGHIG advisor(s). iv. Elections of all officers shall take place at an election meeting held in the spring semester. v. Each officer is elected by majority votes cast before proceeding to the next office. The PGHIG advisor or his/her representative shall count ballots and results will be announced after the ballots have been tabulated. a. Election of co-president positions shall be conducted as follows: 1. Candidates running for co-president positions may run as either a pair or a single party. i. During the election of the first co-president position, if a pair is elected, the co-president positions are filled. ii.. During the election of the first co-president position, if a single party is elected, the second co-president position is open to elect a second single party. vi. All officers are elected for a one-year term. vii. In event that more than two persons are in contention for an office, two ballots will be cast. The first ballot will serve the purpose of narrowing the number of candidates to two. The two candidates who receive the highest numbers of votes in the first ballot will ascend to the second ballot. In such case as there is a tie for the second highest number of votes in the first ballot; the second ballot will proceed with three candidates. The winner shall be the candidate who receives the simple majority of votes in the second ballot. 7. Resignation or Removal of Officers and Filling of Vacated Offices A. Removal of officers i. An officer may be removed from office if he/she: a. Willfully neglects duties of office; b. Is no longer in good academic standing per University academic standards; c. Is found guilty of mishandling of funds; d. Neglects to uphold the PGHIG mission and goals. ii. An officer shall be removed from office following discussion by Executive Committee and a two-third vote of the committee. iii. An officer may choose to be removed from office by submitting a resignation to the Executive Committee. B. Resignation of officers i. An officer may resign from office if he/she: a. Is no longer able to perform duties related to position; b. Is no longer in good academic standing per University academic standards;

c. Provides at least two weeks’ notice to president and vice-president and PGHIG advisor(s). C. Upon resignation or removal of an officer from his or her position, the Executive Committee shall have the option to appoint a replacement to serve out the term. D. Any PGHIG advisor shall be subject to removal upon petition by two-thirds of the PGHIG membership. The Executive Committee shall submit the petition to the Dean of the School of Pharmacy for approval. The Executive Committee shall seek out a person to fill the position only after it has been informed of the formal removal of the current advisor. After removal or resignation, a new PGHIG advisor shall be elected in accordance with the criteria set forth in these bylaws within one month of removal of the PGHIG advisor. 8. Meetings A. General meetings i. There shall be at least six meetings per academic year. ii. The president and vice-president of the Executive Committee may call special meetings. iii. The Executive Committee shall determine the time and place of general meetings. vi. The membership shall be notified at least one week in advance of the time and place of the general meetings. B. Executive Committee meetings i. There shall be at least six Executive Committee meetings per academic year, prior to each general meeting. ii. The president and vice-president or two Executive Committee members may call special meetings. iii. Executive Committee members shall be notified at least one week in advance of the time and place of Executive Committee meetings, when possible. When advance notice is not possible, a reasonable attempt must be made to inform each Executive Committee member. vi. An officer transition meeting shall be held after the elections in the spring semester. At this time, the old officers shall transfer their materials to the incoming officers. C. An officer planning meeting shall be held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. 9. Amendments A. The PGHIG Bylaws may be amended at any time by the following procedures: i. Proposed amendments of the PGHIG Bylaws must be submitted in writing to the Executive Committee. ii. The proposed amendment(s) will be posted in a conspicuous place and/or electronic copies will be made available for general member review at least one week prior to the next general meeting. iii. The proposed amendment(s) will be announced and voted on following an open review for all executive officers.

vi. Adoption of the proposed amendment(s) will require an affirmative two-thirds vote of the members present. v. The Bylaws shall be reviewed by the Executive Committee in the spring semester of even years.
