PHASES OF THE MISS PAXON PAGEANT COMPETITION PRODUCTION NUMBER All contestants will participate in the Opening Act in which all girls have an equal part. The contestants will not be judged in the Production Number.
PARTICIPATION (Possibility)* Each contestant is expected to be in attendance and punctual at every practice/meeting and adhere to all deadlines.
PRIVATE INTERVIEW Each contestant will have a private two to five minute interview with judges. It is recommended that you wear business attire-clothing that is suitable for a job interview. Included in the interview will be a few seconds to close. Judges will be observing your mental alertness, personality, voice, general knowledge, personal appearance, etc.
EVENING WEAR For this portion of the competition, you are allowed to wear evening attire, which MUST be approved by the pageant committee.
CASUAL WEAR (Possibility)* Contestants will be allowed to show their own personality in a cute, appropriate street wear outfit (cocktail dress, Capri’s with a nice top, etc.). The outfit MUST be approved by the pageant committee.
TALENT The talent competition is a major portion of the pageant and should be given careful consideration. Talents may not exceed two minutes. Contestants have scored better using one talent rather than a combination of two or more (i.e. singing, dancing and playing instruments). Talent presentations MUST be performed live on stage and not be projected. This does not preclude the utilization of taped background music (on CD) as long as the contestant is performing live. No talent may be duplicated by another contestant. The Pageant Committee will consider requests on a first come first serve basis. Fire batons, sharp objects, or any objects/talents that would have the potential to cause harm to anyone are PROHIBITED. Furthermore, props that would occupy large portions of the stage, live animals, and removal of clothing are prohibited. Considering the talent that is planned and the limitations on the sound system, the contestant should decide, in advance, whether to use a standing microphone, wired hand microphone, or a wireless hand microphone. Information must be given to the production coordinator. Taped accompaniment must be on a CD. Regardless of the talent, background music cannot have vocals, instruments, or other noises that mimic the contestant’s. The background music may contain “Ooh’s” and “Aah’s”, but nothing that the contestant may sing along with. Any article the contestant brings on stage MUST be functional. Non-functional props will more than likely distract the contestant (For example, if a chair is brought, the contestant MUST sit in that chair). If technical difficulties prevent the contestant from performing any phase of the competition, fairness dictates that she will be allowed to restart. The decision to restart will be made with consultation of the producer, director, and the judges’ panel.
ON STAGE QUESTION At the end of the evening wear competition, the contestants with the five highest scores will be asked a general question. At this point, each of the five contestants will draw randomly and be asked one of the questions by the emcee. * If it is decided that the 2013 participants will phase in the Participation and Casual Wear segments, the breakdown of the points will be given in an addendum at a later date.
