Re: Philippines Typhoon Relief Worthy Sirs: I am sure by now you have all heard of the devastation caused by the Typhoon which hit the Philippines. Many of our Brother Knights and their families both here and abroad were directly affected by this event. It is at times like these that the Knights of Columbus leap into action by lending a helping hand. We have a long history of aid dating back to our origin. Already in 2013, Knights have responded to disasters in West, Texas; Moore, Okla.; and Alberta, Canada. In this year alone, Knights donated $3.3 million and 18.4 million hours of their time toward disaster relief efforts. “When Father McGivney founded this organization in 1882, he did so with the intention of helping those most in need,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “Today we are happy to continue this legacy in numerous ways through our works of charity. But we honor this vision in a special way with our ministry to those affected by disaster. When our neighbors are left with nothing, Knights are among the first to rush in and help them get back on their feet.” With Typhoon Haiyan striking the Philippines, the Supreme Council has approved $250,000 for humanitarian relief. We here in Ontario can add to this relief effort with our generous donations. We have many members here in Ontario who have family members living in the affected areas. Many are unable to contact their loved ones at this time. They are living in a state of the unknown which can be trying at best. I ask that you please pray for their safety and well-being. I also ask that you pray for the aid workers and all those affected by this disaster especially those who have lost their lives. Your contributions for humanitarian relief in the Philippines can be made at http://www.kofc.org/un/en/charities/articles/disasterrelief.html

The Knights of Columbus Disaster Relief Fund is used to support the local work of our Knights of Columbus councils though their disaster response efforts in coordination with emergency agencies and first responders. Vivat Jesus,

Kevin Daudlin, KCHS State Deputy
