2. APPOINTMENT OF PARENT MEMBERS ● ● ●
Sherisse Al Sabeh is unable to attend the noon hour PIC meetings and has withdrawn as a PIC parent member. A call will be put out to the CSPA membership at its upcoming meeting, to seek new parent members for PIC. Jody Prevost, Principal, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School was introduced to the PIC Committee as the school staff representative replacing Margarita Ziroldo.
3. ELECTION OF PARENT INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON Laura Cater expressed an interest to have her name stand as Chairperson of the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC). No other names came forward for the position of Chair. Motion: Moved by Cathy Philpott, seconded by Mark Savenkoff, THAT Laura Cater be elected Chairperson of the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) for a Two Year Term, until the Fall of 2018, in compliance with Procedural By-Law 3.1 Carried
4. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES – May 17, 2016 Motion: Moved by Cathy Philpott, Seconded by Susan Elsdon, THAT the Minutes of the May 17, 2016 meeting be approved as presented. Carried 5. ACTIONS RESULTING FROM MAY 17, 2016 MEETING: None
6. NEW BUSINESS a) People for Education Conference (Cathy) ● CSPA and PIC Chairs are attending the People for Education Conference on November 12, 2016
● People for Education is covering registration fee and travel expenses for CSPA Chair to attend ● Request put forward for PIC to cover the cost of the PIC Chairperson to attend and have registration fee/travel expenses to a maximum of $500 paid from the PIC budget Motion: Moved by Cathy Philpott, Seconded by Mark Savenkoff, THAT the conference fee and travel expenses be paid from the PIC Budget for Laura Cater to attend the People for Education Conference in November 2016. Carried
b) PIC Budget Update (Laura/Sandra/Cathy) i. PIC Budget - Ministry Allocation for PIC (Sandra) ● ●
$5,000 per year plus 17 cents per student allocated from Ministry Was higher amount last year, questioned Ministry; if money not spent it is adjusted proportionately?

46 schools were approved to receive PRO grants in 2016-2017 2 school councils have not reported back from last year Schools that have sent money back totals $8,716 (owed back to the Ministry) Approved PRO regional grant $7,500 for this year Reminders are sent 3 times per year; the Board needs to know if reports were submitted and how funds were spent to ensure that the process has been completed Should be an agenda item in May for CSPA (Cathy P) Creating an annual school council agenda Include key agenda items in school council booklet Put as an agenda item on March 7th to discuss again PRO cheques to be sent out next week PIC cheques will go out the third week in October

Guidance or suggested focus areas for PIC spending - discussed in item 6 (b) above d) CSPA Update (Cathy) ● Stuart Shanker - November 3, 2016, at St. Paul High School ● Boot Camp for School Councils - Monday, Nov, 7 at Thomas D’Arcy McGee Pending but yet to be confirmed: ● Teaching Boys ● Strong not Tough or a session on Suicide prevention (St. Mark HS) Nov ● SEAC presentations TBD ● SHSM presentations at 2 - 3 HS locations SEAC Update: (Helene Lapointe-Jerome) ● Special Education Coordinator Lynn Colletti spoke to SEAC on Technology for students with special needs ● Other presentations to SEAC: ○ Special Education/Student Services Department Presentation in spring ○ Advocacy for Parents with Special Needs - Louise McGoey ○ Sensory Processing Issues and how it affects Behaviour - presented by occupational therapist Natalie Mabon
d) Indigenous Education postcard ( Denise) ● Postcard developed to be sent home with the eldest/only child (not all students) ● Appreciate support from PIC for the printing ● Cost $3,100 plus tax for 43,000 cards ● PIC Logo will be added ● Mark suggested that it go home with the report card; addresses the confidential nature of the collection ● Intended audience is for all parents - and for parents who have not identified but could ● Over time, how can it be a long term strategy; on the verification form and registration form ● Recommend $750 from PIC budget be used to support printing; a request was made to the Ministry for funding as well (oldest & only child)

Motion: Moved by Susan Elsdon, Seconded by Helene Lapointe-Jerome, THAT PIC support the contribution of $750 towards the printing of the Indigenous Education Postcard. Carried
e) OAPCE Update (Susan) ● Letter received from Executive Director of Ontario Catholic Trustees Association (OCSTA) encouraging Boards to consider membership in OAPCE ● Every school council would be required to have an OAPCE rep if the Board is a member ● Director of Education provided an outline of what membership in OAPCE would bring ● In early spring of 2016, the OCSB paid 50% of the annual membership fee (roughly $2,500) to give CSPA an opportunity to determine the value of being a member of the Ontario Association of Catholic Parents for Education (OAPCE). ● CSPA executive agreed to review OAPCE membership in September 2016, to decide if CSPA wanted to go forward with membership for 2017. The review will determine whether to continue with OAPCE. ● The Executive of CSPA recommends that membership in the Ontario Association of Catholic Parents for Education not be continued after 2016.
