It gives me great pleasure to announce the new Pirate Bookshelf Program at Perkins High School. We have noticed a steady decline in the number of books checked out of the high school library, and it is time for an update. In order to provide the broadest spectrum of materials for our students and community we need a community partner. The Pirate Bookshelf is a partnership between Perkins Schools and the Sandusky Library. This collaboration will allow our students and community better access to all the resources of Sandusky Library and its network.!

Our students will be issued a Sandusky Library card which provides them access to all Sandusky Library materials. Students can checkout materials on-line and those items will be delivered to Perkins High School within the next two days. Parents and community members can drop off library books at a book drop located outside of Perkins High School. This will be an extra convenience to our community which eliminates a drive to Sandusky Library to return library materials. Community members who check out books on-line also have the options of picking up their books at Perkins High School main office. !

Our students will have access to all information, educational, and recreational materials of Sandusky Library. For the convenience of its users, the Library has planned collections of material for teens and adults. Borrowers may select from any part of the total collection. Since the Sandusky Library staff and Perkins High school staff cannot directly monitor the choices a student makes, you will need to be aware of what your child borrows from the Library.!

Perkins students must have an active library card for the check-out process. You as a parent/ guardian are responsible for any items on that card. The library card may be used at any of its service locations. There will be a $1.00 replacement fee should a child lose his/her card. !

To assist parents, the Sandusky Library website has the pamphlet Keeping Kids Safer on the Internet published by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The Sandusky Library staff and Perkins High school encourages parents to review this information with their children.!

Perkins Schools and the Sandusky Library staff are pleased to offer this extended service to Perkins High school students and the Perkins Community. Both staffs look forward to serving the needs of our students and the Perkins Community. Please complete the attached form and return it to your child’s Seminar or Skills App. teacher.
