Places To Ride During Hunting Season    Suggestions for safe hunting season riding outside the ring:  Wear  blaze  orange  with  reflectors.    There  is  no  such  thing  as  too  much,  retail  chain  stores  such  as  Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. have cheap vests that fit over your jacket.  Sleigh bells tied to your saddle  or breast collar help so hunters can hear you coming.  The door knocker size (2 to 6 bells) works best for  small group riding.  The huge belt of bells (26+) are too loud, you can't hear the other people talking.      Important note:   Bow season (for deer) begins October 1 along with several types of small game for the majority of NYS.   Youth hunting with an adult on Columbus Day weekend.  Big game hunting with shotguns begins Nov.  15.    Rifles  are  allowed  in  Wyoming,  Ontario,  Allegany,  Cattaraugus,  and  Chautauqua  Counties  (Erie,  Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Monroe, and Livingston Counties shotguns only).  Rifles can have a one mile  range, so it is a lot more dangerous being in these areas than in the past.    Also,  remember  that  many  private  land  owners  do  not  want  people  on  their  property  during  hunting  season.  Therefore, unless you have been granted permission, please respect that.      Pleases that are safe to ride during hunting season ‐ Rochester Area    Mendon Ponds    North Hampton Park    Oatka Creek    Black Creek    Pleases that are safe to ride during hunting season ‐ Buffalo Area  Hunters Creek     Genesee Road Forestry     Boston Forest     Allegany State Park does not allow hunting on Sundays – but caution highly stressed    Knox Farm ‐ Park officials request that all horses stay on the black top, when available, so as not to damage the grass.
