Guidelines for Completing a Piping Plover Site Observation Log Overview The purpose of this form is to ensure that the necessary scientific data on Piping Plover activities is properly recorded. Try to be as objective and scientific in your observations as possible. The information collected on this form aids agency biologists in making recovery decisions. The information collected on this form will also be helpful to volunteers arriving for the next shift. General Info Include full site name, date observation took place, names of observers and the time of visit. Weather Conditions Record the weather conditions at the time of observation. Also record if there have been any major weather disturbances since the last visit to the site (e.g. strong winds, thunderstorms, hail, very cold night temperatures). Piping Plover Observations Record the location of plovers and their movement during shift, any behaviours you observe (mating, incubation, hatching) and any signs of distress or injury. General Site Observations Record other species present (especially potential predators), human activities on beach, and anything of particular interest. Visitors This section is to record information on the visitors you encounter. For example include the approximate number of people spoken to, any events or visitors comments, and questions you might want more information on. Additional Comments Space to record any other field notes you wish to add.

Thank you!
