Position – Pollination Ecology Technician, Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana
Description - The full-time field and laboratory technician will assist a Montana State University at Bozeman graduate student with research on the responses of Montana’s native plantpollinator communities to post-wildfire logging in Montana’s Gallatin National Forest. The position will run approximately from May 15th through August 28th (both start and end dates with flexibility). The primary duties of this position include assisting with field and lab work. The fieldwork activities include hand-netting pollinators (involves handling stinging insects), counting and identifying plants, and harvesting fruit. In the lab, the technician will assist with processing pollinator specimens (pinning, sorting, cleaning), and entering data. The field sites are located in the Mill Creek area of the Gallatin National Forest, in Southwestern Montana. The team will camp at field sites throughout the workweek, and weekend housing will not be provided. Compensation will be based on experience.
Qualifications - Applicant must possess a high school diploma and at least three years of college experience. Previous experience in field-based research, especially plant identification, is desired but not required. Applicants must be able to hike on steep slopesides for long hours, and work in adverse weather conditions. A successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, the ability to pay close attention to detail, and the willingness to ask questions for clarity. A valid U.S. driver’s license is required.
