POWER WITH RESPONSIBILITY

The Biomass Power Advantage Biomass Power Limited (BPL) is a market leader in the design, manufacture and installation of biomass power stations. BPL have developed a highly optimised process of staged gasification and combustion, enabling the efficient generation of clean power from a range of biomass fuels, including energy crops, agricultural and forestry residues or biomass segregated from commercial and industrial waste streams.

All parts of the biomass power plant are factory fitted and skid mounted to ensure a tested, quality assured sum of process parts that are delivered as an 'easy fit' assembly. This modular approach ensures an economical, efficient, perfect fit to suit all requirements. BPL's standard range of market designed modules with outputs from 1 MWe to 20 MWe can be combined to create any size power station.

UK Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Versus Pure Power Generation (PPG) It is important to identify the localised needs at the outset of the project before selecting which approach to take. For example, it is not environmentally acceptable, from a carbon standpoint to produce CHP if heat is only required for part of the year. However it is acceptable to produce PPG as long as you are grid connected and there is constant local power demand. When you produce only Pure Power Generation (PPG) from a biomass fired steam cycle, the turbine which generates the power has the steam extracted from it at a negative pressure to ensure as much of the latent energy or heat in the steam is used to produce the power. When producing Combined Heat and Power (CHP) from a biomass fired steam cycle, the turbine which generates the power pushes the steam from it at a positive pressure to ensure there is enough latent energy left in the steam to produce usable heat.

Both strategies have great environmental credentials, it’s all about local infrastructure and demand. The demand can also be created, for example, a cold store could be built next to the power station to utilise Combined Cooling Heat and Power (CCHP). The local demand can be met by installing a hot water ring main or district heating system, however the UK has traditionally allowed the customer personal choice of their heating energy providers, raising questions for the implementation of CHP in the future. The UK has some decisions to make about what renewable energy fits the bill. The truth is they all fit given a certain set of circumstances; it’s about choosing what’s best for the locality you live in.

Biomass Power Ltd is a market leader in the design, manufacture and installation of Biomass Power Stations. Through our highly developed process of staged gasification and combustion we are able to generate clean power from a range of biomass fuels including energy crops, agricultural and forestry residue and segregated biomass fractions.

Efficiency Biomass Power have handled almost every type of solid fuel from straight forward chipped trees, energy crops and agricultural residues, to the segregated biomass fraction of municipal, industrial and commercial waste streams. The main factors which affect the efficiency of the plant are fuel type and plant size. When designing the plant, the fuel will affect the quality of the steam, the higher the quality of steam the more power it will produce. Efficiency gains can also be achieved through turbine selection, the more stages a turbine has, the more efficient it is. Hence larger plants can deliver greater efficiency.

Biomass Power can produce guaranteed electrical efficiency 'fuel to buzz bar' using well proven robust steam boiler technology. Biomass Power can guide you to the best fit for your future plans and finances when given an idea of the fuel or fuels you would like to use, the output required and / or the space available. Biomass Power systems can be engineered to produce Pure Power Generation (PPG), Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and Combined Cooling Heat and Power (CCHP).

Environmental Advantage BPL has the local and global environment at the heart of its company policies and any BPL power plant development considers first and foremost local sensitivities, global emission standards and CO2 reduction targets. BPL's system design and highly optimised control strategy ensures compliance with any national or international emissions standards and boasts market place proof of meeting all the challenges that modern day society demands. ™7j^aY^c\h]VkZWZZcXdchigjXiZY[gdb&'"&*b^c]Z^\]i ™:b^hh^dchVX]^ZkZYdcldg`^c\eaVcihVgZ]Va[d[l]Vi the allowable limits of the national environmental standards dictate ™Cd^hZ]VhWZZcViiZcjViZY[gdbVbW^Zcicd^hZaZkZah VhadlVh(*Y76

Global carbon reduction needs addressing by all who demand energy to fulfil their lifestyle choice. The Biomass Power team is already responsible for reducing carbon annually by 124,000 tonnes from power plants designed, installed and commissioned by the board of directors since the turn of the millennium. With the future growth planned over the next five years and the many units which are either in construction or the final stages of planning, Biomass Power will increase this global annual saving to 488,000 tonnes of carbon by 2014.

Combined Heat & Power Combined Heat and Power is a very efficient way of utilising the energy released from steam. Via the turbine for power and by extracting heat from the uncondensed, condensed or indirectly heated water of the steam cycle. Rather than producing as much power as possible, the approach is combined to ensure that power is produced at the correct voltage, and heat at the temperature required to be used by the developer at their discretion. This method can be adopted across the range of 1 MWe to 20 MWe modules. Electrical output will reduce in accordance with the heat required, the lower the grade of heat needed the more power you will produce.

As situations change, society can progress with more effective and greener options being available as we all improve our ethics and green credentials. Biomass Power's specifically market developed power plants have the facility to produce as much power as possible from the steam cycle. However, if you require heat to be extracted proportionally according to load, Biomass Power can integrate this function on installation to be used as required.
