HOW TO BE PREPPY: The Original Guide This is a vintage reproduction with new layouts and newly added illustrations. Originally titled Blue Blazer, it was written in the 1960s by Mar-je-belle Young Stewart, etiquette authority and advisor to presidents. The NYT said she was a member of the small white-gloved pantheon that included Letitia Baldridge, Elizabeth Post and Judith Martin.
This is a book from the 1960s the PURE era in preppy culture. IT IS THE AUTHENTIC "how-to" guide to Preppy— a very American code of gentlemanly etiquette: Effortless and Timeless Style A quiet mark of privilege It’s about kindness, courtesy, being humble and easygoing, never bragging, never flashing clothes labels like billboards.
This was the JFK-generation brimming with possibilities almost assured success in this
world, and literally shooting for the moon!
Our book has a sporty, jaunty writing style that is fun to read and perfectly conveys preppy style, self-assurance, camaraderie, good-natured ribbing and a world that had a quality of social order that made things comfortable and running smoothly.
As these young preps were destined for positions of power and authority there are chapters on "Leadership", "Good Grooming", "Table Manners" and "Good Sportsmanship" and an illustrated close-up of a proper manly handshake. The book will be supported by major media publicity esp linking it and the writer to JFK during the November pub month with is synonymous with JFK memorials. We'll target magazines like Parade where we've had some success for Shire, In Style and Men's lifestyle magazines like Esquire and GQ. The format is small-size- a great POS paperback, impulse buy.
