SIGN-IN AND SIGN-OUT The Department of Social Services requires all preschool students to be signed in and out by an authorized adult each day. Please use the iPad to electronically sign your child in and out every day using the unique pin-code assigned to you. Each authorized adult is assigned their own code, and it is imperative for the safety of your child to only use your assigned code. Sign in/out records are legal documents that are audited by the Department of Social Services, and we appreciate your cooperation in maintaining compliance.

a lunch from home, or purchase a hot lunch at school. Lunches from home should consist of foods that your child enjoys and can eat independently. Please do not send glass containers. Thermoses and/or ice packs work well to keep food warm and/ or cold, as we are not able to refrigerate or heat your child’s lunch. Hot lunches are provided by Nutrition Management Services for an additional cost. Sharing food is NOT permitted

SNACK AND LUNCH Fairmont provides a morning and afternoon snack for all Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten students. Please make sure we are aware of any allergies, and we will be sure to accommodate with alternative snack options as needed. Students may either bring

that is kept in your child’s cubby. A small pillow is ok to bring as long as it fits in the small bag. Toys and stuffed animals are not allowed at rest time. Bedding is to be taken home to be washed at the end of each week and returned at the beginning of the following week. Extra Clothes: Children should have one full set of extra clothing. Shoes are a good idea if you have a spare pair; however, they are not required. Extra clothing must include tops, bottoms, underwear, and socks. Label It: Please make sure you label everything that your child brings to school (jackets, clothing, bedding, etc.) with your child’s full name or first initial and last name in permanent marker (Sharpie). It is much easier to locate an item and return it if it is properly labeled. Personal Items: Please do not send children to school with anything of monetary or sentimental value (toys, money, jewelry, electronics, a special blankie, etc.). We do our best to protect personal property; however we cannot be responsible for lost or broken items. DRESS CODE Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten students are not required to wear a uniform. Students must wear clean, properly fitting clothing appropriate for play and for the weather, and that allows for independent bathrooming. Tennis shoes or other closed toe shoes must be worn. Flip-flops, Crocs, sandals, boots, and other loose footwear are not allowed. Please refrain from sending students to school in clothing with logos or characters that are inappropriate or offensive. ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT & CONFERENCES Parent/teacher conferences are held in October. A conference may be requested at any time by contacting the teacher via e-mail or telephone. Report cards will be distributed three times a year in November, March, and June. Progress reports are distributed in January and April. Informal assessment of student progress is done by the teacher on an ongoing basis throughout the school year. Pre-Kindergarten students complete the Children’s Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA) three times per year to monitor performance and growth. ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY Students need to be in class to learn. The teachingAcademic Year 2017-2018

learning process builds upon itself as each lesson presented to students is based upon or related to lessons that were taught earlier. Students are often involved in hands-on activities that cannot be duplicated. Tardiness will cause your child to miss important instruction, as well as create a disruption for the class. Good attendance and punctuality is a life skill that will be needed for a student’s future success. Attendance and tardies will be recorded on school records and report cards. Whenever a student is absent from school, a written or verbal notice is required to excuse the absence. A doctor’s note is required for illness-related absences of more than three days. Parents must notify the school office whenever a child has a contagious illness. Alternative pick up arrangements, such as leaving early or being picked up by someone other than an authorized adult, should be arranged prior to the day whenever possible. For the safety and protection of students, parents must provide written signed permission to the school to authorize alternative pick-up release. If a child needs to leave campus for any reason in the middle of the day, a parent or authorized adult must sign the student out at the front office and then sign the child back in if the child returns to school on the same day. BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS & CONSEQUENCES We believe that students can treat one another with respect and make positive choices to create a safe learning environment by following the school rules.
