PRESS RELEASE Falco to Launch Hx Kool – Its Patent Pending Liquid Cooled eBike Technology at Interbike 2015 Hx Kool solves the problem of overheating in gearless hub motors and significant gear failures associated with geared mid-drive and hub motors.
Dulles, Sep 04, 2015: Falco is excited to announce the launch of Hx Kool – its patent pending liquid cooled motor technology for eBikes at Interbike 2015. The technology is primarily designed for cargo bikes which carry heavy loads up to 500 lbs. (227 kg). Conventional gearless brushless hub motors overheat and eventually shutdown or burn-out while trying to carry such heavy loads. Geared mid drive motors or hub motors suffer from gear failures. Motor excitation and rotational kinematics cause losses and friction, creating the motors to have an overall enthalpy gain leading to excessive heat build-ups. This problem is most severe in direct drive or hub motors without gears. Geared mid-drive and hub motors try to solve this problem by shifting the losses from the motor winding to the gears. This does not eliminate the problem completely and causes complexity and additional issues such as guaranteed gear failure and loss of efficiency during commuting. Team Falco and its founder have pioneered an innovative breakthrough that allows for gearless direct drive systems and hub motors to have a lower enthalpy gain while under full torque. The technology uses fluid dynamics to decrease the ratio between temperature and energy. Falco’s engineering team started researching the concept of fluid absorption to maintain lower temperature levels after data correlated significant “geared” motor failures associated with cargo bikes. After intensive research and testing, the solution proved to be fluid containing polymeric organosilicon molecules. (Poly)Dimethyl-siloxane based solution is non-toxic. Inert silicon liquid is diluted and treated to allow for lower viscosity and water-resistance. The composition is environmentally safe and has been
